Wow this looks awesome. The proper 230bhp vRS engine with the LSD which is just icing on the cake.

Even at 30l ex showroom its VFM considering the mechanical setup and all the features.

This is definitely going to be a hoot to drive. And since it has the better box, it can get a good map and be running around 300bhp easily. And it will put the power down.

Almost (yes I said almost) makes me feel bad about buying the 320d and not replacing my Laura vRS with this.

Thanks for the insight.
Can the DSG gearbox handle the extra torque in tap if the power is bumped to 300bhp?
Any VRS automatic already have this done outside India?

From the sideview, few observations:
  • The car is definitely riding higher than euro spec vRS, or even euro spec Octy. My hunch is that they have retained the rough road package for India, perhaps employing a stiffer spring along with it (like how they did for Laura vRS).
  • If those are 17" rims (to me looks like wrapped with 225/45 R17 Hankook tyres, most likely S1 evo2s), the front brake rotors are filling up the space nice and tight, so most likely it employs the 340mm front rotors.

The buttons on the center console also suggest that car has auto start-stop feature. Is the same available on regular TSI/TDI sold in India?

Plenty of VAG 2.0TSI with stock DQ250 are running those numbers. Stock clutches are known to handle at least 400Nm without any fuss and a bit more with DSG remaps. And clutch pack upgrades for DQ250 are also available if needed.

So let me ask you this:

Octavia vRS or a within warranty pre-owned 320d? I can't make my mind up.

For me personally - What the BMW has going for it is the brand + better aftersales than Skoda + rear wheel drive. It will need an engine tune or box + shock absorber change (if its a pre lci 320d) to make it properly fun.

The Skoda is fun right out of the box, but it misses out of rear wheel drive and the overall dynamics of the BMW. Frankly the Skoda would be my pick, just that I've not had the best experience with them over the past couple of years so I would be hesitant.

Also, maintenance cost should be a little bit lesser with Skoda compared to BMW.

I am very much saddened by the extremely conservative choice of the Alloys in the India Spec Model!

Feast of your eyes on the Alloys, which are available in the EU/UK Market.

To be honest I did not like these wheels much like the headlight treatment on the newer Octavias.

Im glad about a few things with regards to Skoda India and VRS.

1) Slightly higher suspension means we can use it as a daily driver on our pot holed roads.

2) Glad they did not bring those wheels here for us. The VRS looks nice in its conservative looks.

3) The 2.0 liter in the vRS is every enthusiasts dream. Hope they dont give us the 1.8 Tsi in the last minute.

4) They chose the vRS 230 over 245. Its no big deal really because performance wise there is not much difference. The 245 only sounds a lot better from the outside. Nothing that an after market exhaust cant fix. The 230 also might keep the prices very realistic.

Eagerly waiting for the launch on 30th. Might never know what the heart will do to the mind this time.

I agree.

These wheels look great and should have been made optional at the least.

The 17" wheels look very ordinary in pictures.

However, I believe it's a good thing that Skoda has decided to give us the smallest wheels from their catalogue. It makes the car way more drivable on a daily basis with the conservative wheel setup.

Well, it depends on personal taste.
I have seen these alloys in person and whenever I see these, I go weak in my knees. (A feeling shared by few other colleagues as well).

Somehow, it make me feel like they are modernized versions of the classic Alfa Romeo Brera Alloys.

Just saw the vehicle in the flesh - and I must say it looks way more beautiful. The pictures cannot do it justice!

Also - one thing I notified nobody else has, is that there are 12 way electronically adjustable seats for the front passenger as well. A small difference, but might be important for a few. For me - this spells good news since my mom is short and has a back problem, so a lowered seat height with Lumbar support is a huge plus.

Totally personal taste, but the EU/UK alloys take away too much attention from the VRS. Not that the India car alloys are any better - they are much too bland. I expect most buyers will swap to the staggeringly huge choice of 17" alloys available today in India.

I found a hideous modded i20 today in my neighborhood with the VRS EU alloys
