re: Scoop! Skoda Octavia vRS spotted in Mumbai. EDIT: Launched at 24.62 lakhs

Simply Clever! Superb pricing, I should be in the market by end of the year for a proper sedan and the vRS kind of clicks all the right boxes for me. Hopefully, by early next year I should bring this one home

Octavia 2.0 TDI DSG

The pricing for RS is really sweet . It is priced 3.72 lakhs more than 1.8 TSI top end and just 1.72 lakhs more than 2.0 TDI top variant.

On an aside those going for the Hyundai Elantra 2.0 AT just hold your horses. Skoda 1.8 DSG makes the Elantra spec sheet look very primitive and may see some lucrative discounts on it.

Whats more interesting is this 2.0 TSI is mated to 6 speed DSG which is more reliable than 7 speed DQ200. Good job Skoda.

Re: Scoop! Skoda Octavia vRS spotted in Mumbai. EDIT: Launched at 24.62 lakhs

Wow! killer pricing! This time, they gave the fully monty. the 2.0 TSI. The looks, the name, the power! Just stunning!

Kind of the opposite of what happened with the GTI. I really hope it gathers enough demand for them to continue production. Any idea if it is limited edition?

Ok, now seriously, who will buy the Audi A3? It has 3/4th the power, 3/4th the handling and 3/4th the space, just 1.5 times the logo and 1.5 times the price

I disagree with this. Skoda service has come a long long way and I wouldn't be so quick to discount them. This is coming from someone who's faced multiple breakdowns in the past two years itself. They're actually putting in a visible effort.

They also have on offer some comprehensive service plans now. 4 years long and some benefits.

Apart from the DQ200 cars, I'd give Skoda cars a serious look.

The GTi was priced way too high at launch and that sort of killed the car, especially as there was no freshness or practicality about the car.

The vRS FL doesn't have any of those issues, and doesn't seem to be any cap on production numbers at the moment.

As for the A3 - the A3 is a brilliant handler, and the interior quality etc. is a notch higher. A lot of people choose brand & quality over practicality/space/performance so there will still be a limited market for it, as is currently the case. Don't expect those sales to be dented.
The Octy TSi though will see a huge dent in it's demand - only a few people who want a luxury petrol D Segment sedan will buy it.

Frankly, there is nothing in market which offers this kind of power for this kind of money!

There is simply no other option in the market.
The other cars in segment like Corolla, which offers 'cheap' servicing costs, is powered by a rather 'cold' and emotionless petrol, and a hopelessly weak Diesel engine.
Same goes for the Elantra. (NO 2 liter Diesel option and an Average performing Petrol).

By the way, it is a widely accepted fact that European Horses need more Fodder(Fuel) & Medicine(Maintenance).
The potential buyer of this 240HP power house in most cases already knows that he has have to shell out more in the service center.
However, he will still chose the vRS because of two reasons:
1. No other option in the Market
2. The vRS is just too good a car to drive for the Price

That is inevitable because the DQ200 is supposedly 'limited' to 250NM of Torque.

A3 is hardly a car which comes to the mind for 'performance' purposes, thanks to it's rather small 1.4 engine.

Re: Scoop! Skoda Octavia vRS spotted in Mumbai. EDIT: Launched at 24.62 lakhs

I was watching the launch live. Skoda spoke about competition and they did not even mention Audi . They compared it with BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar. Top speed of 250 KMPH was same as the competition mentioned during presentation.

Would be interesting to see how the engine performs on our fuel. Speed 97 availability is very selective and I feel most people would find it difficult to get it on a regular basis.

The occasional tank of regular petrol is ok. What would happen if one used regular petrol on a daily basis; apart from the decrease in performance. Would there be any engine damage, knocking or void warranty.

This seems to be a worrying factor, as I have booked a RS and the nearest outlet is more than 20 kms away.

The mini coopers and the gti seem to be managing on the regular fuel though.

If anyone has 2 millions to spend on a car, what a time it is. First Jeep Compass & now Octy VRs. Additional GST cess will spoil the party soon though :(

You can try this race fuel concentrate called Pro Octane. It is Octane booster. Many have given positive feedback. Do check their page :

If this is pre-additional GST cess price then, generally the Ex-showroom price gets increase by 7%.

So expecting around 26.34 lacs ex-showroom. Still good price! But yes, not as mouth watering as before, because then the OTR will be 32+ as opposed to 29.7 now. So yes, act quick everyone!
