Re: Rumour: Mahindra working on XUV500 2.2-litre petrol

I am not sure if a petrol engine based on a long-stroke diesel would be a good idea, TATA know what happened, just shooting in the dark without any specs to back my belief.

Pretty sure that's the diesel one. Seems to be misprinted or gasoline has been made more generic to include diesel.

Re: Rumour: Mahindra working on XUV500 2.2-litre petrol

I think with the 'sarkari' lobby going against Diesel a Petrol makes perfect sense. In my view it may take at least two iterations before a decent Petrol engine emerges. So take the first (and second) avatar to be test beds and no more.

Correct. The power / torque numbers are of a diesel. If Mahindra has let "gasoline" go to print, then the writer and proof-reader are both ignorant that gasoline does not mean diesel.

140bhp only out of a 2200cc turbo petrol? Wow, sounds boring on a 1700+kg SUV. Or is not a turbo petrol? And why is the max torque only from 1800-2800rpm? Can't wait to TD this, it probably would be very boring considering the power figures.

Why the camouflage? Just the engine is different right?

That is because this variant will be along with the face-lift as planned for a 2018 launch.

mHawk is their diesel engine..right? I think it is a misprint since the power and torque figures are also matching the diesel mHawk engine XUV is currently available with.

Re: Rumour: Mahindra working on XUV500 2.2-litre petrol

M&M seems to have launched this variant here in Dubai with 6 airbags. Spotted this in a magazine advert a while ago. Also, the first time the XUV goes on sale in the UAE, with the Scorpio and Scorpio Pick Up being the only variants earlier.

The Mahindra XUV500 with a petrol engine is all set to go on sale in the UAE with power coming from a 2.2-litre engine.

Quote:

The Mahindra XUV500 petrol makes the same power output as the diesel.

The feature list remains the same on the Mahindra XUV500 petrol.

The XUV Petrol will be offered only with an automatic & AWD is optional.

The Mahindra XUV500 is expected to get a petrol derivative in India soon, but before that, the model has made its way to the UAE. The petrol powered XUV500 has been unveiled in the Gulf country and has been listed on the company's website as well. The XUV petrol is priced at 74,900 Dirhams (around Rs. 13.24 lakh) and will be available with an automatic transmission only. In India, the XUV500 is available only with a diesel heart but with the market shifting towards petrol engines once again, Mahindra would want to cash in on the trend with a petrol powered derivative.

Speaking about the Mahindra XUV500 Petrol for the UAE, the crossover uses a 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine under the hood. That's the same displacement as the diesel version, while power output remains the same as well at 140 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The petrol motor comes paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Re: Rumour: Mahindra working on XUV500 2.2-litre petrol

im still very sceptical about these figures. 320 NM from a 2.2 petrol mill? either the torque is developed high up in the rev range, or this engine is turbo charged. And if its turbo charged, then 140 horses seem way too low for a 2.2 L mill. something just doesn't add up!

Re: Rumour: Mahindra working on XUV500 2.2-litre petrol

That 320NM coupled with 140hp can only mean one thing 320nm torque is made around the higher red line. Compass with the 1.4 develops more power hell even a OCtavia with a 1.4 develops more power :lol

Mod Note : Team-BHP has received images of the Mahindra XUV500 petrol. Please continue the discussion in the new thread.
