Ford testing a Figo crossover? EDIT: Now revealed as Freestyle

Mod Note: Our Freestyle Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

New report on NDTV here.

Is this enough to revive the sagging fortunes of the Figo & Ford - am somehow not so sure. But full marks to Ford for trying cause if Kia comes in with their cars, the competition will only get tougher.

Quote:
Though heavily camouflaged, we can see quite a few elements that are new up front and at the rear. The front bumper gets new lower air intakes and the headlamps too have been revised. The signature Ford grille remains but we get to see plastic cladding over the wheel arches, which is normally visible on 'Crossover' variants. At the rear, the bumper is all new and maintains Ford's signature look. The Figo facelift also gets twin-spoke black alloy wheels, which is a new design and unlike the multi-spokes which were recently caught testing in Brazil.

We will get to see some changes to the cabin as well. Expect to see an updates centre console and it's very likely that the car will now come with a touchscreen infotainment system, which was till now missing in the Figo. We hope to see Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the car as well, considering that its competitors already come packed in with them. The Ford Figo facelift will make it to India soon but how soon, is one question that remains unanswered. We might see the car at the 2018 Auto Expo or before that. When launched, the 2018 Ford Figo will compete with the likes of New Maruti Suzuki Swift, 2017 Hyundai Grand i10, Tata Tiago and Honda Brio in India.

The most obvious differences are
- wheel cladding
- roof rails
- alloy design
- front bumper
- fog lamp housing

The roof-rails (something the original Figo had) also give it the cross-over look. This was the variant that was missing from Ford's line up and maybe thats what Ford is aiming to launch before they roll out the updates to the rest of the variants?

I wonder how they are sure that this is a replacement, and not some cross variant ?

Another hint that Ford is not going anywhere, but only making attempts to strengthen their footfall in India.

While they are doing their job by constantly updating their products / features / introduction of their new 'Dragon' series petrol engine and even expanding their dealer network, now it is up to the car buying public to stop entertaining rumors about Fords being expensive to maintain etc and give their products a deserved consideration while going out for a purchase!

It's the Ford Ka Trail. Just google for it and there's plenty of images.

Plastic cladding and roof rail, the crap people think make crossovers

One thing that I noticed is that because of the thick wheel cladding, the tyres seems like they have been pushed inside and therefore it mars the (so called rugged) looks of the car. Something similar to the refreshed first-gen Tata Indica of yore.

There is a big difference in the front and back bumpers, and the black strip running across the bottom sides is also missing.

So, have Ford made major changes for the Indian Market? Assuming this is for the Indian Market!!!

re: Ford testing a Figo crossover? EDIT: Now revealed as Freestyle

Ford already sells the Ka Trail in markets like South America, which is essentially a cross-hatch based on the Ford Ka (Figo for our market).

Sighting of this test-mule in India could mean Ford is readying an India entry of this model, which will be based on the updated Figo hatchback.

Upcoming Ford Figo Cross to be based on facelifted Figo; to get all-new Dragon petrol engine. - 2018 launch.

Ford should stop wasting time and money on launching products in segments that have failed.
This 'cross' segment is a very niche segment with a lot of competition already - none of whom are doing well unless the car is made substantially different than the hatchback variant - which this isn't.

Instead they should launch service packages, and focus on marketing their lower cost of ownership - that is what would drive customers to their showrooms.
They already have brilliant vehicles in each segment.

The Service costs/packages are actually competitive and low or at-par with the competition. The products are let down by the lack of consistent marketing. It's like monsoon season. They'll flood media with ads for a while and then vanish.
