Re: Government to add 10,000 electric cars to its fleet

Government to go for another 20k Electric vehicles early 2018 and plans are there to replace or convert the entire fleet of 5.5 lakh central govt and PSU vehicles to electric in the next 4-5 years, which is quite ambitious. However, even if half of that target is achieved, it would give a major push for the EV segment.

Quote:
State-run Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will float a new tender to procure 20,000 electric cars as the central government plans to electrify its car fleet in next 4-5 years confirms CNBC-TV18.

EESL to float fresh tender for 10,000 EVs

The Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) will float another global tender for 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by April 2018. It will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Andhra Pradesh to supply 10,000 EVs for official use.

According to Saurabh Kumar, managing director, EESL, state governments have shown interest in procuring EVs from EESL. Some of the vehicles procured through the fresh tender will be supplied to the Andhra Pradesh government. Further, the state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra are also looking to purchase 4,000 and 2,000 EVs respectively.

This will be the second tender for 10,000 EVs floated by EESL since August 2017. Earlier, Tata Motors had outbid Mahindra and Nissan to bag the contract. As part of the deal, Tata delivered the first batch of 250 Tigor EVs in December 2017. EESL hopes that more manufacturers will bid for the second tender. Moreover, EESL hasn't set a fixed timeline for the delivery of the cars. It will depend on the production capacity of the winning bidder.

Man, Oh Man!! With all the EVs that were shown off in the Auto Expo, I bet there's a going to be a bidding war in the next auction. I can't see why Nissan and Hyundai won't jump in.

I wish Tata do not win the bid this time. I am eagerly waiting to buy a Tiago/Tigor EV and if Tata wins this bid too, then they will postpone the launch by another year.

Re: Government to add 10,000 electric cars to its fleet

There was a flag-off event for the EESL's 'National E-Mobility Programme' in New Delhi on 7th of March.

Quote:
R K Singh, Minister Of State for Power, New and Renewable Energy said, "After the successful tender of 10000 electric cars last year, the demand for e-vehicle constantly rising across various departments of the Union and state governments. To cater to the growing demand, EESL will issue a fresh tender tomorrow for procuring additional 10000 electric cars. This second tender is testimony to the fact that India offers a huge market potential for e-mobility"
Came across this nice picture of eVerito and Tigor EVs, representative of the electric vehicle push:
