Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

Something is not correct here. Changing heart of the car and reducing just 20k? This is not going to take them anywhere.

It is true that entry level trims are just meant for creating footfalls as the margins are very thin, but adopting this strategy is incorrect. They could have introduced the new engine option alongside the existing 1.6 to cater to both customer segments i.e. people expecting powerful cars and the one expecting more kilometer per litre.

This may not go well !

Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

Not sure what exactly is Hyundai expecting to achieve with this update? And why not give 1.6P option in EX MT option? Why is Hyundai's product planning team so confused? They did this with i20, They did this with Xcent. They did this with Creta and now Verna.

Note to Mods:

Can the below thread be merged with this thread? Believe both are about Hyundai Verna 1.4 P Engine option.

Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

I don't understand the strategy here. Might be a first in automotive history in India, where a refreshed version comes in within 4 months of a product launch.

I would have understood the logic, if they had introduced a new E version with 1.4L engine and undercut Ciaz. But, downgrading existing model is abysmal. That is too with a 20K price cut is simply implausible. Are they trying to imply that, a 1.6L engine costs just 20K more to 1.4L? Sorry, too difficult to digest.

I feel the real reason could be to drive much of traffic to higher variants. Previous EX model was too VFM and might have killed SX. But, what I feel, they inadvertently gave the game away to Ciaz.

Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

What a regressive step by Hyundai. Forcing a buyer to go for the 1.4 engine for a mere saving of 20k? They should have dropped the prices by atleast 50k and even then should have continued to offer the 1.6 in the lower variants(atleast in the EX trim). The early buyers of the E and EX variants should consider themselves lucky, while the new buyers are going to suffer from massive heartburn and some customers may just change their booking to the Ciaz. Overall, a win win situation for Maruti.

Definitely. So here is what Hyundai has done: Diminish EX variant with 1.4 engine, nominal 20K drop and push customers towards S/SX.

I hope Hyundai doesn't replace Creta 1.6 E and the VFM E+ with 1.4 Petrol engines. Hyundai have regularly done feature reduction with Elite i20 variants in the past and made ABS available in top end models only for Grand i10.

Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

The EX gains nothing new from the old 1.6 variant but only loses 20K as the price from the previous version. I wonder which customer is going to be happy with a 20K savings while having to live with a sub-par engine.

If this move meant that an Auto variant was going to be introduced under 10L, then it would have made sense. Not able to understand what Hyundai is trying to achieve with this.

I guess the SX is still VFM at 9.68?

At launch, the 1.6 EX was cheaper than the 1.4 EX

Got it from an old thread:
Launch price for Verna
Petrol
E 799,900
EX 906900
SX 947900
SX(O) 1108900
EX AT 1026900
SX(O) AT 1223900

Diesel
E 919900
EX 999,900
SX 1111900
SX(O) 1239900
EX AT 1139900
SX+ AT 1261900

Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

A well priced 1.4 petrol automatic would have made Honda and Maruti take notice.

Is this move just to get rid of the 1.4 engines as it rumored that the i20 is going to get a new 1.2 petrol + CVT combination?

Re: Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol launched at Rs. 7.80 lakh

Somehow this sedan segment upwards of 10lakh plus seems to be rapidly shrinking. The pie is definitely getting smaller and it doesnt help that you get the SUV(ish) form for the same price as this segment. Besides, cars are really running away in terms of what we pay. No doubt they are safer (probably) and feature laden but what the heck, the best sub 10lakh car today is the DZire !
I don't think the current verna has the spunk in terms of looks that the fluidic one had. Its not a bad car at all but Hyundai couldnt up the game to make it stand apart. Everyone seems to be giving all the features these days in this segment - even Honda! I dont see a real differentiator for hyundai. Ventilated seats - nope - am not paying a premium for that one for sure.

Re: Hyundai Verna to get new variant with 1.4L engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 7.79 lakhs

The 1.6 Litre engine on the Verna was it's USP among rivals such as Ciaz and City. Now that the base models don't offer the 1.6 anymore, why should one not opt for the Ciaz or the City? I think this move gives Ciaz a reason to celebrate!

In my view Hyundai had a differentiator with the 1.6 EX automatic, which Honda never had. And with this all cars in the c segment has automatics just on the top end variants! What a disaster, just when you thought automatics are getting more and more affordable and wide reach!

The 1.6 EX AT is being retained - it's the 1.6 E & EX MT trims that are gone.

Also - Honda offers CVT i-vtec in V, VX, and ZX trims, so it's not limited to only the top trim for Honda.
