Hope that the Creta 1.4 CRDI, Duster 1.5 dCi and S-Cross won't be classified as SUVs as their engine capacity is less than 1.5 litre.
Can you please provide the source for this because as per this Elantra and Octavia are at 5%?
Thanks to our govt for creating such confusion in the single tax regime

Spot on. Not fair comparison IMHO.

I can see the used car sales increase a lot now due to no effect of GST on it. New cars especially the luxury and SUV ones will go off the shelves very slowly for 1 to 2 months.

Festive season is a damper. Honestly feel bad for the customers of new cars who have already booked (myself included), dealership etc who were preparing for the sales onslaught during the festive season.

Absolutely knee jerk decision.

The title of that news link in my previous post gets my goat:

Quote:
Pre-Diwali gift from Jaitley: Small cars will remain cheaper

Is it only small car owners who are entitled to celebrate Diwali? Mid size sedans, SUV aspirants have no right to celebrate Diwali?? What silly logic!!

Small car definition is (1) length <4m AND (2) engine capacity <1500 cc (diesel) / 1200 cc (petrol). Ciaz does not full fill first criteria.

I think the title of the thread needs to be modified.

GST cess on midsize sedans, SUVs & luxury cars hiked to 25% (a 10% increase) ??

re: GST cess on midsize sedans, SUVs & luxury cars hiked

Here's what some of the manufacturers had to say on the hike.

Quote:
Honda India on the other hand says that "the consumer will have to pay the price of the car which is applicable on the day of delivery." Which, plainly put means that even if the consumer decides to buy the car today and delivery is at a later date, by which time, the additional cess has been applied, the consumer will need to pay the amount which will be tagged as 'outstanding'.
Quote:
Audi and Mercedes-Benz have already made their disappointment clear but we wait to find out about the final decision.
Quote:
Land Rover India too made it clear that prices of the new Discovery are post GST at 43 percent (28 percent basic plus 15 percent cess). It said that the "prices we not inclusive of the proposed increase in cess since that is not finalised yet. Price prevalent at the time of delivery of vehicle and not at the time of booking shall be applicable."
Quote:
While we contacted Jeep India for an answer the spokesperson said, "We haven't officially decided yet on what to do in such a situation, but we will make an official announcement if there are any price revisions which occur due to the additional cess"

The new cess would be effective from 11 September onwards. Government tweet.

re: GST cess on midsize sedans, SUVs & luxury cars hiked

Good for Scross and Ciaz I guess.

It's coming out with SVHs tech and hence may fall into hybrid category.

For Jeep compass too since GC is less than 170 mm.

This is just a theory - but I believe these car makers may already have been aware of the formulae.

Seems unfair to Hyundai but maybe creta's GC will be lowered.

All in all this seems to be much better than what was being talked about for auto industry. Takes care of optics for the mango men but at the same time not too hard on the autos too.

Hyundai would be hit at all models even Verna, because of 1.6 engine it would get 5% increase. People who got Verna before this announcement are lucky.

This article from NDTV auto and the table in it describes quite well the effect of the GST hike for various segments.

Not sure if this is the right table. There is still ambiguity wrt cars like the Ciaz. It is longer than 4 mtrs but engine less than 1.5 ltr. Not sure if that is addressed with this new table.

Expect a lot bigger/longer aero flaps near the wheels to reduce GC on most soft roaders.

Seems wrong. They have missed the 5% Cess Category for Verna etc.
