Re: Scoop! Tata Nano electric spotted testing in Coimbatore

So these were the 'gliders' Cyrus Mistry was talking about.

To me, it seems like a win-win for both Tata and Jayem.

Now eagerly awaiting to see one on the road.

Hormazd Sorabjee adds:

Jayem Neo will get a 17kW motor for fleet use. More powerful variants likely in future for personal use but could be with Tata badge.
So Tata is not killing the Nano with is a great news.

Well, This is a very innovative business model, I would say. BTW, I say this based on what I have been going through in the last 18 months.
Its a great partnership model to have a "win-win" situation for both the guys [TML and Jayem].
More importantly, customers do get benefited too. 200 KMs within a city is a great range. Most of these cars would just be occupied by 1 or max 2. So, its just great for this range.

I am surprised, none yet started speculating the pricing and ditching the car right before the launch! Usually, this happens for Tata like brands

Prem.

Re: Scoop! Tata Nano electric spotted testing in Coimbatore

Really good news, hope this clicks for Tata !

Since the engine note, which was a turn off for some folks, is now going to be completely absent, it could contribute to improve the sales. Just hope they improve the performance of the brakes.

An entry price of around 3.5 to 4 lakhs would be a winning strategy.

I feel the name should be changed from Nano to something else which can highlight its strength, which is interior space. For example, something like "Meet the PENTAZ - the Electric 5 seater from Tata" could spell a change in fortunes

I really doubt Jayem or even Tata can sell it at 3.5-4L. The cheapest e2o with plastic body panel costs 7L for the base version and 11L for the high capacity battery version. Tigor Electric costs 11L. I dont think they can sell it below 5L.

Here it comes, the pricing speculation with what would work and what wouldn't
Lets give the manufacturer and the partner sometime to make some official announcement/launch before we start guessing.

Sometimes, we may be guiding them wrong with our expectation. Who knows, TML/Jayem may want to launch this much cheaper than e2O.

.
As a fellow car enthusiast and someone who is eagerly waiting to buy an electric car, what else shall we discuss? I had to cancel the e2o booking after finding out that the car is not powerful enough to climb the steep incline from my garage. I had been waiting for another electric car for years.
Do you think we the bhpians are going to sit quiet without speculating anything until the car is launched? Definitely not me and there would have been quite a lot if it had been another ICE car.

The price you've quoted for the Tigor included five year warranty and maintenance plus RSA if I remember correctly. The "ex showroom" would have been a lakh lower or more.

I do agree that 3.5-4L is too low, but then again this is not a new design from the ground up. Presumably the non driven suspension components and steering along with interiors and electrical components can all come from Tata's existing plant/suppliers unless there is a fundamental change, so that should help keep costs down.
