You can probably ask for 1K-2K extra for the value of car that you are selling.

Well, then again when you sell a car, 1K-2K usually looks insignificant which brings back to the story that a VIP number may not fetch you a higher price

Flyingspur, each series has 9999 numbers and only certain numbers are percieved to be special. The number of cars with special numbers in Delhi and Mumbai will be exactly same.

This is because the Govt came out with a new series like in place of DL-2C, it would be DL-2F and one can choose whatever combine within a given stipulation.

Plus Delhi being the political capital, every second person wants to show their importance and will have a Fancy NUMBER

Strange coincidence

It always happens when I am with my girlfriend. There will be some or the other car or rickshaw or Bike that passes by us with a number whose first two and last two digits are in a 1:2 ratio. For eg: 0102, 2448, 4896 and so on. The moment she locates one such number she points it out to me. Then there are the usual 1111's, 8055's 0001's and so on. I come across these number plates only when she is around with me. Strange coincidence.

I thought that in Delhi, the letter C stood for the category (car/scooter etc.). So cars would have number of type DL-XC, 2-wheelers would have DL-XS. Is it not like that?

Well in Delhi the denotation goes as follows:
  1. DL - Delh
  2. 2 - Region. This can be anything from 1-13 as Delhi now has been divided into 13 RTO zones
  3. C- Denotes category, cars in this case. Its can also be S- Scooter, R - Auto Rickshaw, F - Fancy, P - Passenger buses, T - Taxi, Y- Tourist Taxi and so on.
  4. After this the Number Becomes DL2CA 1234. the A goes up to Z and then again AA to AZ, BA to BZ and so on.

Common mathematical logic doesn't fail me. I was simply making an observation. Most people have a new series opened up just for their number.

I am watching a car (Toyota) from past few month (almost 3). This car still does not have any no plate. It belongs to some Cong Politician. The car has all accessories, except a no plate. Dont know which no is waiting for. Is the owner is waiting for some Chanda (Donation) to buy a No Plate. Can we assume this car does not require any identity...

i had paid 8k for getting a rolling number series for my linea and have chosen 3223 for the car. i came to know that for paying 8k they give 1000 numbers in rolling in which numbers like 3333 or 3000 or 3456 will not be given ( given only for politicians) and i am allowed to give 4 choices among which they will grant the number.

If you want a particular number in TN you need to get a Govt order from secratariat and get the number alloted which might cost 20-25k including the bribe to transport minister
I recently saw a i20 with number TN xx I 20

The prices of these numbers just keep going up! But I guess it depends from RTO to RTO.
I have got 6611 3355 3334 from Pune RTO few months back for 3000rs without reciept.
Got the Superb last week from Thane RTO and their pricing is way higher, I guess because demand here would be more than Pune for fancy numbers. Had to pay 5000(3000 offical reciept + 2000 bribe) for 5557 ! Double digits were costing almost double

there is a bigshot person (related to some famous politician in Pune) who stays near my house in Kuthrud, Pune. All his vehicles have number "700". I see a sierra (black, I am keeping an eye on it hoping he puts it on sale), c class, safari with this number. there may be more cars as well.

Also the person I got my car from is very famous business men from ahmednagar with most of his cars with number 277.
Many times people at different places have asked me if I am related to this person just by looking at the number on car.
