In August 2009, Government of Delhi has stopped issuance of Fancy numbers.

Any update, did they have started issuing fancy number again or not?

In Kerala you have to first pay 2k for booking a fancy number. If more people opt for the same number then it will go for auction. 2K is non refundable.

Fancy Numbers Price Increased in Karnataka

If you’re keen on some specific numbers like 9999, 4545, 111 for your vehicle, you will have to pay three times the existing fee in Karnataka. The transport department has hiked the fee for fancy numbers by up to 300%.
Vehicle owners will have to shell out a whopping Rs 75,000 for cars and public transport vehicles for numbers of their choice. The existing fee is Rs 25,000. Even two-wheelers have not been spared.

There are two series — running and advanced — in this category. The number allotted within the running alphabet, say M, N, MA, and P is termed a running-series number. A number given out of the running series by opening a new series is called the advanced series.
The changes will make fancy numbers under running series as costly as Rs 6,000 for two-wheelers, Rs 20,000 for cars and Rs 30,000 for other vehicles. Getting a number of your choice under advanced series will be rather expensive — for two-wheelers, the fee is Rs 25,000 and for cars and public transport vehicles, it’s Rs 75,000.

there is an article regarding same in today's TOI (Bangalore edition).check out the e-paper. the article is in 1st and 5th page.

Anyways, i read that people have paid like 7 lakhs for a number in Kerala. So 75K will not be a big deal!

we have 2 marutis (Zen and M800) in gaurage with number 7574.
with this price hike by Karnataka RTO, i am sure, i wont spend on getting fancy number for my new car!

Have never been crazy about fancy numbers. More so, if I had to pay for them!

however I was lucky with my Vista. TN** - ** 2468

Many have asked me if I indeed paid for it. They don't believe me when I say I got that number because my car was next on queue at the RTO at the right moment!

Either that or the RTO thought 2468 reg plate is nothing too fancy.

This is something crazy. In our entire family we have cars with the following numbers:
5254 (mine!)
8485
9007
5308
3589

At first glance they are not at all VIP numbers. Not even close. If you observe closely, and add the individual numbers and the end result digits as well, you get 7 for all! Thats something I discovered la year back. My family was shocked to the core needless to say! Its weird. I for one cannot explain this. It still freaks me out. What do you guys feel, hidden agenda? Hah ha!!
