Re: VIP Car numbers

I am awaiting delivery of my Royal Enfield Classic 500 Desert Storm and would get it registered in my hometown, Ranchi in Jharkhand. I want to get a JH 01 CL 500 or JH 01 DS 500 registration to go along with the bike's moniker. What is the procedure to procure such plates and what will be the amount that I would have to spend? Experts please advice.

Re: VIP Car numbers

Hello,

Last week I bought a pre-owned Car & the number seems to be VIP (XX XX BV 2700).

I am sure that the previous owner has paid a decent sum of money for this number. I am pretty sure about this because my car is October 2010 registered & in our building there is another car regstered in same RTO in July 2010 (three months prior to mine) but its number is (XX XX BY 8619).

Is this legal? Can RTO's issue vehicle registered numbers in non-sequential order? Because ideally my car's number should have had series like XX XX BZ XXXX or CA XXXX..

Thanks,

Re: VIP Car numbers

My definition of VIP numbers:-
Numbers 1-100

The rest like triplets, quadras ,786 etc can be classified as fancy numbers/desired numbers but not VIP numbers.

Can we have a propers definition. Of VIP numbers please.

Re: VIP Car numbers

Some broad patterns for numbers :-

Many prefer numerical 9 when all the digits are added. Eg. 2727, 540, 6336 etc.

AP transport department has categorized and had fixed minimum reserve price for them. Any competition for same number, whether categorized or otherwise, would require open auction and the highest bidder gets the number.

Some people would just go for a number which appeals visually. Some go for 'sensational number'. My friend bid for AP XX AK 47 which cost him Rs.14 K. Fortunately for him, only one person knew the significance and competed but that person withdrew at 14k mark. Not that my friend had an idea, it was I who suggested he wait and bid for the number. Here, both the alphabetical series of AK and numerical serial of 47 are significant and that number AK 47 will not get repeated in the district again.

Some people go for the lucky number - either for numbers of the vehicles which were previously owned and stood them in good stead or the total number being their lucky number.

Other than what you have mentioned, there is a huge demand for following numbers:
1. 8055 - which is written as "BOSS" on number plates
2. 2141 - which is written as "Ram" or "Raja" on number plates

Then there are personal choices like initials of names & birthdays. For example I, Jignesh Mehta would like to go for MH 02 JM XXXX or if my birthday is 11.04.XXXX then I shall want the number of car as 1104, etc.

Also number totaling to digit 9 have a good demand.

Thanks,

Re: VIP Car numbers

i wanted a number repeating with 77 in end or with double number repeating like 4477, 3377 etc. But in Karnataka out of series number costs 25K if i am not wrong. all the number ending with 77 were already booked in current series. So dealer did some arrangements internally and got me 3733 which adds up to 3+7+3+3 = 16 = 1+6 = 7

So i have two 7 in the number making me feel i have VIP number

Agreed, but those personal choices still would not qualify as VIP numbers. I am sure we would have some definition of VIP numbers in Motor vehicle Act or some government notification .

Request the learned BHPians to shed some light on this.

I wanted a number ending with 677 for my xuv but could not afford to pay 25k so instead the broker arranged for a number in the current running series 3767 for rupees 1500. I got the 6 and two 7s but arranged differently.

It use to cost 25k about 1 year back. My father as this fancy numbers 6666 for all his cars. If it is available in currently open series one can pay 25K and book it if the series is not open then one as to get an approval from the District Collector. In fact he Paid 25K to get such a no for his Alto. From last one year this kind of numbers cost 75K in Karnataka. My Innova is also 6666!

Yes, some fancy numbers like 1, 7, 9, 6666, 7777, 9999, 8055, 786 also some religiously believed lucky numbers are considered as VIP numbers. Rate differs if it is available in currently running series. If the series is not yet open then premium rates apply.

Hello .Albatross,

Just go through the link suggested by Akshay above & link for Karnataka RTo pasted by in another reply. These link contains the detailed information about various numbers & Rates.

I recently bought a pre-owned car & the number is 2700. The previous owner has paid Rs. 15,000 as official fee for Choice number in September 2010 at Mumbai RTO. I have RTO receipt of the same. But in the maharashtra RTO link 2700 is no-where mentioned.

Thanks,

Re: VIP Car numbers

In Solapur (Maharahstra),
If one wants a VIP number from advance series (since that number has been already allotted from current series), he has to pay three times of the official fee allotted for that number.

Our Indigo XL Grand DiCOR bought in May 2007 has number MH-13 AC-9798. At that time we paid Rs.10,000/- as official fee.

When we bought Xylo E8 ABS in Nov. 2009, we wanted 9798 number for it too.
But the AC Series was not yet over at the time of Xylo Registration. So the RTO quoted us Rs.7500/- X 3 = 22,500/- for 9798 from advance series.
But my Dad refused to pay Rs.22,500/- and we took MH-13 AC-6162 by paying Rs.7,500/- as official fee.

EDIT: -
My business partner paid Rs.3,00,000/- i.e. Rs.1,00,000/- X 3 for Number 1 (for his BMW 730Ld) from advance series since it was not available in current series.

Re: VIP Car numbers

This fancy number stuff is hilarious. A scooter for 45k with a 12 lac no.? What is the world coming to.

I was in a car with a phenomenal number with only 2 alphabets followed by number 1 (the first registration of anything that was to be registered in the state) and all we kept having to do was avoiding people turning around and peeping into the car. One guy went further and stopped us in the middle of the street and asked how we got the number and whether we wanted to sell it. If you ask me, you might feel special for a few days, after that it is plain irritating.
