Renault Duster Sandstorm Edition launched at Rs. 10.90 lakh

Renault has launched the Duster Sandstorm Edition ahead of the festive season. The Sandstorm Edition is available in two trims - RXS Diesel 85 PS and RXS Diesel 110 PS, offered at an introductory price of Rs. 10.90 lakh and Rs. 11.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively.

According to Renault, the Sandstorm Edition comes with 9 new features. It gets a revised bumper with Duster branding and extra lamps, a blackened grille, and Sandstorm decals on the hood, doors, tailgate and ORVMs. It also gets body coloured door handles and new 16-inch alloy wheels. The model is available in three colour options - Outback Bronze, Moonlight Silver and Slate Grey.

The interior of the SUV is finished in black and grey, while the centre fascia gets a dark chrome finish. It gets black door trims and door handles. It also gets new seat covers and floor mats with 'Sandstorm' branding. But, more importantly, it comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and dual front air bags.

The new Duster Sandstorm Edition is available with a choice of two engines. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel produces 84 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox on the RXS Diesel 85 PS variant. The RXS Diesel 110 PS variant is powered by the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel but in a higher state of tune. It produces 108 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 245 Nm of peak torque @ 1,750 rpm. This engine is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Sandstorm Edition is only available with a 2-wheel drive (2WD) option.

Very sad for Renault. The Duster was a roaring hit when it was launched. But now this compact/mid size SUV/CUV space is getting really crowded. It is almost like the compact hatchback segment.

Renault should address the real issues and make improvements to the interiors, give a proper automatic/dsg transmission rather than cheap AMT which other manufacturers only put in economy cars.

More color combinations won't help in my opinion to bolster the sagging sales of the Duster.

The tyres in the picture look a bit more beefier (higher profile). Are there any changes to the tyres?

Have to admit that the overall looks are good, with the revised front bumper (with an extra pair of lights).

Renault is simply wasting time with such updates, probably trying to clear off inventories with re-badging existing ones. This is one of the most insignificant updates I have seen.

Duster is indeed a good looking car. Timeless exterior design let down by the below average interiors and Renault India's apathy. I feel it's the only car in its segment worthy of the tag 'compact suv'.

My bad. so the explorer edition did not come with ABS (a colleague in office has one and it does not have ABS). Not sure if they provide ABS now.

I feel giving airbags without ABS is like having a solution to cure something rather than to prevent it altogether.

Instead of launching these cosmetic updates Renault should seriously offer more safety features for their base variants. Duster Standard and RxE are now offered without any airbags and RxL with just driver airbags. Even a basic Sigma Ignis with half the price of Duster offers dual airbags with ABS and EBD. While Ecosport is offering 6 airbags in their top variant, Renault offers only two airbags in the top variant for 16 lac. OTR! Wake up Renault!

Re: Renault Duster Sandstorm Edition launched at Rs. 10.90 lakh

I might be the odd one out mostly but I did not like the lemon yellow decals. It looks as if a wet brush fell from a moving vehicle and brushed by the car's panels.

The problem with the Duster is that it already has a timeless design. Even with the real upgrade that is in the works for future, the design philosophy will remain the same more or less. And there is little that can be done in the current guise to actually make the car look BETTER and not gawdy.

Then - this is not a sub4M car that a lot of its contemporaries are. So it does not get the tax benefits and combined with higher margins that Renault prefers, this car is now starting to feel disastrously overpriced for what it offers.

The interiors are simply appalling by today's standards. There is no escaping this fact. Unless they totally revamp the whole plastic setup all over the car's insides, any such limited editions and the associated pricing, is not going to pull more customers.

Look even here. This car gets compared to cars like Ignis which are full 2/3 segments below. This is unfair but fair too! Renault should do this comparison and see what the cheaper cars are offering compared to their sticker jobs...

Not very unfair. Internationally as well, there are comparisons of Ignis with the Duster. Infact, Ignis is mentioned as a better product to the Duster at a cheaper price tag. Of course - they get the Ignis AllGrip version with off-road abilities there, and Duster is honestly priced there for what it really is!

When the bodyshell itself is weak & unstable (according to the NCAP), more airbags aren't the solution - link.

The Duster is too cheaply built, old & outdated. I can't recommend it to anyone in 2017, except to someone who needs that AWD for a specific purpose.

Exactly GTO. The only reason there is a Duster in my garage is because it the cheapest AWD CUV that I could find with good driving dynamics and comfort.

The interiors are a different story all together.

Re: Renault Duster Sandstorm Edition launched at Rs. 10.90 lakh

Just came to know that the 110 (D) has 2 Lakh price cut and now the OTR in kerala is around Rs. 11.3 lakhs. It comes equipped with two airbags and ABS + EBD + most other safety on the RXZ as well.
Does it make any sense today ? Especially when compared against the new Ecosport Titanium + (D).

I think Renault finally realized what I have been saying is a reality, there is no better choice than Duster at 11.3 lakhs, Ecosport is no match if you are a passionate driver. Buy it with closed eyes.
