Think its quite early for a facelifted Innova, chances are it may be a low cost model or is it the Toyota Avanza your friends/sources are pointing to instead.

Did I hear Avanza?

That'll be like bringing back the good ol' days of Qualis.
Tavera, Scorpio etc should run for cover.

Innova! It's just nice now. There'll be some new version with some added/minused features. Won't be worth waiting I guess.

Nay!! it wont be worth the wait I think.

Get the Innova while the discounts are pouring in. Later, it may turn sour!!

OK not a new version but did anybody notice the base version of the Innova[called all new E] prices have dropped down to around 7 lakhs[ex-showroom].

Of course this is targeted mainly towards the taxi operators.[Power steering is now an optional feature for the base variant as well].The innova may just fill into the shoes of the qualis[however kmpl seems to be the biggest problem for that]

The Avanza looks pretty much the same as the Innova to me, although a tad better looking. Are they two different vehicles altogether, or is it just that they are the same vehicle named differently for different markets?

No the avanza is not the toyota innova. Both of them are sold side by side in some markets.
It is cheaper than the Innova.Lengthwise the avanza is smaller than the NHC even. The avanza is sold with a smaller petrol engine[options of 1.3,1.5] but so far no diesel option.

Avanza is basically a Daihatsu (toyota's sister co) 1.3l mpv and you can see a lots of this in Indonesia, Philipines and some other parts of APac with Daihatsu badge. Toyota did a rebadging and selling it as a cheap ppl mover. IMHO, its a lousy stuff with very weak engine. 1.3l for a 7 seater!?! It became a failure, then, Toyota relaunched it with a 1.5l and again, its a failure here in Brunei. Innova's base model is a diesel 2.5l and costs min of 27k (multiply by Rs.28.5) Sing dollors. Daihatsu 1.3l is around 21k sing dollors which is almost equal to Vios's price.

so two different segments.
