Scoop! Maruti preparing Celerio Cross

It seems like that for the ongoing festive season, Maruti is preparing a cross version of the Celerio.
This pic is doing rounds on whatsapp (received from someone), from what is captured during a promo ad shoot. Only the rear portion of the car is visible with the necessary orange shade, the cross bits on the bumper and rear wheel arch and black painted alloy wheels.
This is the only pic available as of now.

Thank god, my yellow Celerio will no longer look wacky when this one is spotted on the road.

BUT, the folks at Maruti have brought out something better than a sticker job and an MGP kit which is a feat by their standards. If they can get a black interior option, I will be the first one to swap the beige trims in my car to black.

I like the cladding though. Gives a better contrast to the dull surrounds of the car. Also can prevent damage to panels due to brushes here and there, which the car is prone to.

re: Scoop! Maruti preparing Celerio Cross

A quick search came up with this article and render on gaadiwaadi.com from April 2015.

They got the alloys and the color right now didn't they?

So probably no change in the mechanicals what so ever, unlike what was mentioned in the article about suspension upgrade. sigh

Just another sad little hatchback variant and pretend tough car.

re: Scoop! Maruti preparing Celerio Cross

If this car is launched after Oct 1 2017 , shouldnt it be Bharat NCAP compliant ? Or does the new rule apply to ARAI testing date, which in this case is Sept 2017,hence allowing this car to skip BNCAP mandatory requirements

Re: Scoop! Maruti preparing Celerio Cross

Really cringes me when I hear the word SUV in this segment. First it was Kwid and KUV and now this. Who are all these marketing geniuses

You bet! Gaadiwaadi gets a lot of Maruti scoops right. I think one of their team members is located close to Maruti.

Over the last 6 months, the Celerio has been selling an average of 9,000 units / month. That is incredible, especially when you consider the bland nature of the car. The design is neutral, as is the cabin, engine, suspension etc. There is no standout feature about the car, which is why Maruti first launched the AMT in it (as a differentiator), then the 2-cylinder diesel and so on. The Celerio needs some spice to keep the sales counter moving. It's in a very crowded segment. This 'Cross' variant will be yet another push.

The Celerio has quite a nice suspension by budget hatchback standards. I don't see any need for tweaks. It's sorted.

Here is an excerpt from the article by Autocar India.
Quote:
Maruti had showcased a Celerio with body cladding at the previous Auto Expo in 2016 to gauge customer interest.

It also speaks about a facelift, read the entire article here.

Re: Scoop! Maruti preparing Celerio Cross

From the pictures, it does not look to have any additional ground clearance.
How is it a cross then?

The plastic cladding in the picture from Gaadiwaadi looks enormous and over sized.

The 9K sales is a result of the user-friendly tag the car got by the first use of AMT, IMO. Something similar to the Petrol Ritz, which used the brilliant 1.2L K-series engine for the first time in India. The current Celerio is not only bland, it's boring and uninspiring. If this "crossing" can add some masala flavour to the design with a nominal price revision, it is fine. Otherwise, Suzuki need to replace it with the Hustler, IMO.

The Celerio X cross-hatch will get a set of plastic claddings that will run around the car, including the side skirts and the wheel arches. The Celerio X will also get a set of new bumpers which will get black plastic cladding along with brushed silver accents on the bumper. The Celerio X cross-hatch will also get a set of new wheels to compliment the updated styling.

Interior wise, they may add a touch screen infotainment system like the Philippines version.

Re: Scoop! Maruti preparing Celerio Cross

The Celerio is under a very real threat of being unseated from it's current sales position by the steady rise in Tiago numbers.
Thus the urgency by MSIL.
Question - wouldn't a bodykit actually lower the ground clearance if offered with the same mechanical underpinnings?

In fairness, these are just few pieces of plastic, glued on to the bumpers and side running board. This should not reduce the Ground clearance, in any way.
