Just now got a call from the Hyundai dealer that the car will be launched and the price will be announced by noon today. Indication is around 30k more than the current GLS (post GST revision) and the change is only AWD.

Sunroof & ventilated seats *may* not be available.

So, the Tucson is around 31.25 OTR Bangalore, so we can expect a 31.70 price tag. There was around a 1.5 lakh discount that was running last month.

Would 30 lakhs OTR be good value for the AWD version ?

1.5 lakh discount was inclusive of the exchange bonus worth 70k. Effectively, the cash discounts were in the tune of 60-80k. Unless Jeep comes up with a competitive pricing for its Compass diesel automatic loaded with 6 airbags and fixes its missing bits such as cruise control, I think the only credible option in the market is going to be Tucson in the 30 lakh price range.

Apart from the Sunroof, the Tucson also needs LED headlamps for the high beam, especially at this price point for the 4wd diesel top end model.

re: Scoop! Hyundai Tucson AWD coming up. EDIT: Launched at 25.19 lakhs

I think it desperately needed a sunroof for raising the desirability quotient amongst Indian customers. Such features are quite often a decision criteria when it comes to voting within a family and Hyundai should have been smarter about it.

re: Scoop! Hyundai Tucson AWD coming up. EDIT: Launched at 25.19 lakhs

The brochure and Tucson website mentions that the petrol engine is now available in the 2WD AT GLS trim.

But the price list is silent on this variant. It only lists 'Base' and 'GL' trims on the petrol engine as earlier.

Any information on this?

Hyundai Tucson AWD launched at Rs.25.19 lakh

Hyundai has launched a 4-wheel drive version of the Tucson. It is only offered in the top-end GLS trim with a diesel engine paired to an automatic transmission. The Tucson 4WD AT GLS is priced at Rs. 25.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hyundai has also introduced additional safety features on the GL trim of both petrol and diesel models.

The Tucson 4WD AT GLS replaces the old 2WD GLS variant which was available only with the diesel engine. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder CRDi diesel engine which produces 182 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,750 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 4-wheel drive system on the Tucson has an on-demand functioning which automatically sends power to the wheels with the most traction on slippery surfaces or during cornering. The 4WD system can be switched off completely in order to save fuel and reduce wear and tear on the parts. With the 4WD Lock Mode drivers can manually toggle 50:50 torque split between the two axles. Another feature included is the Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC) which helps to transfer torque to the wheels that have the most grip during cornering.

Tucson's 2WD GL variant now gets safety features like ESC, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), hill-start assist, downhill brake control and brake assist as standard. Besides this, it gets rear parking sensors with rear view camera but misses out on front parking sensors. In addition to these features, the new AWD variant gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounting point, etc.

The variant-wise prices of the Hyundai Tucson are:

Petrol
  • 2WD MT - Rs. 18.00 lakh
  • 2WD AT GL - Rs. 21.00 lakh
Diesel
  • 2WD MT - Rs. 19.96 lakh
  • 2WD AT GL - Rs. 22.50 lakh
  • 4WD AT GLS - Rs. 25.20 lakh

Re: Hyundai Tucson AWD launched at Rs.25.19 lakh

Once Hyundai was known for making VFM cars (though expensive) but now-a-days, they are playing a lot with the variants on their offerings, and for worse. Check their variant offerings on the Elantra, Grand i10 (omission of features from sportz variant), and even Elite i20 (omission of features from sportz, even Asta variant), and now Tuscon! What if someone needs a 2WD GLS? It's anyway not a slush beater car but an urban softroader.

Re: Hyundai Tucson AWD launched at Rs.25.19 lakh

Tucson AWD is now a highly desirable urban SUV with everything one can wish for with the possible exceptions of sunroof and LED headlights. Powerful, right sized and reliable.

Feel bad for the initial buyers as they may very correctly feel shortchanged given the updated trim levels plus the new AWD system. Another lesson not to immediately buy a new model but wait for 9 months/1 year for the inevitable V2.

With the updated kit you have mentioned , the 2WD AT GL diesel & petrol have become quite an exciting option for me . Hyundai vehicles are quite reliable throughout their usable life & are decently equipped when compared to Compass & even the Tiguan .

I did some digging around and they are kind of from the same generation of diesels. The 2.0 Liter R-Engine from Hyundai has an edge in power/torque that's all.

But when I did look at one at night [it was coming from the other side] it appeared that it has good headlamps, maybe not LED as you say, is it the parabolic headlamps?

But then, those won't make up for LED's. That would be good to have, along with sun/moon roof.

This makes the Tuscon complete and if it has better approach, departure angle than the Compass and if I were to pick between both, I would gladly pick the boring but maybe more reliable Hyundai with ample SVC's around the country.
