Yes. I agree. BRV with better engines, Honda badge and competitive pricing would have been a different story. Mobilio could have been avoided all together. It looked too bland.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Ertiga, now launched at Rs 7.44 lakhs

New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Expected Prices: How Will It Compare Against Mahindra Marazzo, Innova Crysta

With the introduction of the new Ertiga 2018, Maruti is going to do away with the ‘Optional' safety pack that it offers on the L variants. Standard equipment on offer should comprise of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and rear parking sensors. The additional safety kit is expected to make the Ertiga a tad more expensive than the outgoing model.

Moreover, higher variants of the Ertiga are expected to pack goodies such as fog lamps, projector headlamps, new design alloy wheels, chrome door handles and climate control. These should also result in the new Ertiga being more expensive than the old.

Also affecting its price will be the bigger, 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a mild hybrid system for a total output of 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque. This engine was first introduced in the new Ciaz. The 1.3-litre diesel SHVS engine from the outgoing model will soldier on unchanged. The new Ertiga will be offered in five colours: red, grey, white, blue and silver. With the variables listed, here are the estimated prices of the second-gen Ertiga for India:

2018 Ertiga Petrol

LXi - Rs 7.6 lakh
VXi - Rs 8.5 lakh
VXi (AT)- Rs 9.5 lakh
ZXi - Rs 9.3 lakh
ZXi (AT)- Rs 10.5 lakh
ZXi+- Rs 10 lakh

2018 Ertiga Diesel

LDi- Rs 8.6 lakh
VDi- Rs 9.5 lakh
ZDi- Rs 10.3 lakh
ZDi+- Rs 11 lakh

Note: These are estimated prices. Final prices are expected to vary.

If the above speculated prices are on-road then it seems reasonable. Compared to vehicles like the Creta and Ecosport , the Ertiga is definitely VFM

More speculations on the New Ertiga:

- New Maruti Ertiga Diesel To Deliver 25.47 KM/L

Quote:
The in-house developed SHVS idle start/stop mild hybrid engine is ARAI-certified to return 19.34 kmpl as we can exclusively reveal – up from 17.5 kmpl in the outgoing powertrain. The AT, on the other hand, delivers 18.69 kmpl – a big improvement from 17.03 kmpl.

This is worrying. Hope they have not done this at the cost of safety. Does anyone know what's the weight of the new generation Ertiga?

Same story across all car players I guess. No AT in the top trim. AT customers don't deserve an infotainment system and a reversing camera. I guess it is the same logic i.e. to target a low launch price and later introduce the AT in the top end variant. Disappointing. I feel our market has matured now with the likes of a compact sedan costing 10L+. We can accept a 12L rupee Ertiga with all bells and whistles for sure. Atleast I feel so.

If this is the sure list of features across variants, I feel it is not that bad with ZXI AT. Touchscreen HU, rear-view cam can be installed later easily. The earlier Ertiga AT was only in VXI, missing quite a few features.

It isn't about good or bad. Everything apart from airbags and few critical components can be retrofitted in the aftermarket. The realities of our market have changed. A lot of customers seek a fully loaded car right out of the showroom.

But in case of Hyundai, customer has to sacrifice even the extra airbags in case of not buying top version. For example, Creta Diesel Automatic is not available with 6 airbags, which only come in top version. In case of Scross, top version's LED is hard to retrofit. At least in case of Ertiga, the top version is only some easily retrofittable bits, unlike previous gen's missing of driver seat height adjust/ rear wiper/ alloy wheels etc.

We are not comparing brands. MSIL is the leader in our market and it is by some margin. It is sad to see even them failing to rise to the occasion. What I want to know is the number of Baleno/Dzire/Swift that they sell in the top variant + AT combination. I feel, going by what I see on the roads, that is a fairly large number. A touchscreen ICE unit is considered basic these days.

Some observations:
  • Looks bigger than the older car, from the rear 3 quarter it kind of looks like a Mobilio.
  • The Instrument cluster looks like it is shared with the new Ciaz, looks good. Thankfully it has a temperature gauge, which has gone missing in many modern cars.
  • The boot space, even with the 3rd row of seats in place is decent enough.
  • The overall space is better than the old car.
  • The ride quality is good.
  • No variant badging on the rear.
Special thanks to my friend for sharing these photos & for sharing his view on the car.

Thanks for sharing the info. The immediate noticeable thing is the rear design and for me, it looks too much busy and over done (mainly the tail lamps). Also, as some of our friends mentioned here, at least in the top-end, maruti should provide an option if not by default for 6 Airbags and AT option. This will help maruti to also see how many of the prospective customers go for these optional variants and so they can relatively categorise their upcoming models. This ofcourse, the dealers should not make the customers to wait for longer periods. I also see, For all these to happen, one of us need to be in the decision making panel of maruti
