Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

Renault is planning to launch four new products in India by 2022. These will include a compact MPV and an electric car. The announcement was reportedly made as a part of the company's 'Drive the Future' mid-term plan during the Groupe Renault Strategic Plan Conference held in Paris on October 6, 2017.

The compact MPV is expected to be based on the Common Module Family (CMF) platform which has been jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The CMF-A platform currently underpins the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-GO. Renault's only other MPV currently on sale is the Lodgy which was launched back in April 2015. In the mass segment, Datsun - Renault's sister brand offers the GO+.

The company also plans to introduce 12 electric vehicles during the same period. These will be based on a new CMF-EV platform. One of the 12 EVs will be launched in India however it is likely to be based on the low-cost CMF-A platform.

Will the upcoming Dacia MPV spawn the next 7 seater from Renault? The Lodgy replacement with an SUV stance!

The Dacia range will be enhanced by a new model in 2021. Having not met the desired success, the Lodgy will indeed be replaced by a vehicle still capable of carrying 7 passengers, but offering a more trendy look. In addition, it is expected to inaugurate hybrid technology for Dacia
Quote:
With a length of about 4.50 m, roughly the size of the Lodgy, this "SUV" will compensate for its size contained by a relatively square silhouette to offer enough space on board.

This one will consist of classic engines, with the duo 1.0 and 1.3 TCe for the petrol part, and the 1.5 Blue dCi for diesel.
Quote:
Moreover, is the hybrid system compatible with the 7-seater offer, or will it only be offered in a 5-seater version? All these questions will be answered from spring 2021, when the model is launched. The E-Tech version will hit the market a few months later

Renault 4 electric SUV leaked in patent filings.

The new images indicate a design following in the footsteps of the recently-announced Renault 5 electric hatchback remake. However, the old Renault 4 hatchback shape, which was produced as a small front-wheel-drive family car from the 1960s, looks set to be ditched in favour of a high-riding body style, according to the leaked design sketches.

Design shows squared-off, boxy features for the reimagined Renault 4, presenting a far more utilitarian look than its namesake was known for. It’s expected that this car will be a small SUV counterpart to the Renault 5 electric light hatch, which was presented at the beginning of 2021.

The car also sports a set of stylised wheels surrounded by plastic cladding, horizontal lighting signatures and a vented C pillar.

Renault currently does not offer a small electric SUV in its line-up, though will introduce one soon with the 2022 Renault Megane E-Tech. With that, there is likely still space for a supermini SUV to sit underneath that model line, creating space for this Renault 4.

Some suggest that its design could also expand to offer a van variant, bulking up Renault’s already-expansive commercial line-up. Referencing history, the Renault 4 was offered in a two-door van variant.

While not explicitly mentioned, it’s expected that this SUV twin to the Renault 5 prototype will use a similar all-electric battery powertrain.

Renault’s 'Renaulution' business plan will see a focus placed on profits over outright volume and the introduction of 24 new models by 2025. Of those 24 new models 10 will be all-electric, which this Renault 4 reprisal is understood to be a part of.

I think Renualt must add a 1 L turbo petrol to the Triber with AMT launch it, it would be lapped up by the market.

Euro NCAP safety ratings for the Renault Megane E-Tech and the Dacia Jogger are likely to be published on 3 March 2022. The Jogger might share its result with the Sandero/Stepway/Logan but hopefully the Megane E-Tech will live up to Renault's safety legacy (unlike the Zoe).

Re: Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

Renault Small EV may hit the Indian roads by 2024-2025 to challenge Tata Tiago.

The French car maker has lined up 6-9 product interventions between 2024-2026

Quote:
French car maker Renault India is working overtime to bring in the sub Rs 10 lakh electric vehicles to target a market launch within 12-24 months - having committed Rs 5300 crore with its alliance partner Nissan Motor in India.

Once launched, Renault's small EV will challenge Tata Motors Tiago EV and MG Motor's compact car. The electric vehicle is based on the Dacia Spring – which has the Kwid's underpinnings. For reference, the Spring has a single electric motor producing 45hp and 125Nm of torque and a 26.8kWh lithium-ion battery that has a range of 225km (WLTP). The Tiago EV, on the other hand, is offered in two versions – Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). The former gets a 61hp, 110Nm electric motor and a 19.2kWh battery with a range of up to 250km (MIDC). The Long Range gets a 75hp, 114Nm electric motor with a 24kWh battery and a range of up to 315km (MIDC).

A senior company executive said the company is looking at introducing an altered version of the new Dacia Spring planned for 2024 in India.

Re: Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

The Kwid deserves a new generation before Renault even thinks about electrification. The current Kwid is too long in the tooth and there is no escaping that it will be ten years old in 2025, no matter the powertrain. Something on CMF-A+ and closer to the Kiger could do the trick. Or something based on the Nissan Sakura.

Re: Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

There are no plans for a Kwid model facelift/generation change. With the A segment shrinking, I think Maruti will be the only brand left with the Alto/S Presso. Even globally, Renault has announced plans to launch products in the higher margin B/C/D segments (Kiger/Triber facelifts and a new generation 5 & 7 seater Duster).

The Kwid EV is expected for the 2024 festive season. Too little, too late I think.

There were some murmurs of launching the Megane or Arkana as a CBU, but I think they dropped those plans given the expected numbers.

Re: Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

The Kwid EV would sell very well IF it was in the market already. in 2025 it will hardly be the same as Kwid is in the ICE market now.

2025 expected launch seems like an afterthought than a real commitment to the market.

Renault-Nissan do have cute small EVs in the Int'l market they should bring some of them for show atleast.

Re: Rumour: Renault to launch compact MPV & electric car by 2020

Renault to introduce strong hybrids in India.

Renault’s decision to explore a hybrid powertrain comes at a time when the passenger vehicle market leader Maruti Suzuki India, along with its global alliance partner Toyota, has received a very strong response in the marketplace for their two strong hybrid offerings, the big jump in fuel economy being the major draw. Over the past year, these two carmakers have already clocked sales of around 60,000 units of strong hybrid models; the segment has a significant waiting period of 3-6 months and currently accounts for 1.6% of the overall market.

Renault India says it will localise its strong hybrids to ensure its products are competitive.

Venkatram Mamillapalle, MD of Renault India:
Quote:
We have naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrols, we will have a range of EVs, our engines are ethanol ready – even capable of running on E100 – and we will have plug-in hybrids and strong hybrids for the Indian market
