Domestic auto major Tata Motors has rolled out the 1,00,000th Tiago hatchback car from it's plant at Sanand, Gujarat.
The Tata Tiago started it's production innings last year and has already donned the title of the bestselling car from the Tata Motors stable. It was also crowned as the 2016 Team-BHP Car Of The Year, besides winning numerous other automotive awards as well.
Produced in both petrol and diesel guises, the Tiago is available in 5 variants with manual transmission and 2 variants with automatic (AMT) transmission and was recently introduced in a limited edition dual-tone variant as well.

This 1 lakh number probably includes exports as well. Tata is making great strides with the Nexon and the Tiago and the Hexa - all great products. However their past reputation from the Indica and Indigo days is something that many find difficult to let go
That's encouraging news for Tata! Some consistent top performers could see Tata regaining the #3 spot in India. With the Nexon and then the new platform cars slated to come in, looks like the future is bright.
And, a small observation → Sanand is in Gujarat, right?
I'm so happy for Tata! I was just talking about Tiago on another thead in the forum for Nexon as to how good the sales number are. Wishing all the success to our home grown firm. Hope they bring out more exciting products catering to the needs of enthusiasts :)
The last time Tata rolled out 100,000th vehicle was this -
Which means, one lakh customers came back to Tata. Good job with the Tiago, TaMo!

Congrats to Tata Motors. But I think they shouldn't rest in such laurels. For a mass market car maker, in a large market like India, this is a milestone but not a very important one.
on a related note, wouldn't the Indica be their best seller ?
So 1,00,000 units in 18 months = 5,500 units on avg./month. Pretty decent, and more importantly, setting a critical mass of modern cars bereft of their Indica baggage. Production ramp-up also took some time, and I personally believe that helped them with QC, esp. related to components supplied by external vendors.

I am guessing something got mixed up between the monthly best seller from the current stable vs. all time best seller; but I am sure Tata Motors would rather underplay the Indica association :).
I used XZA for a day recently and I was full of admiration for it. Indeed it's a fantastic package. It deserves even more success than it actually got. Nothing in it's price bracket comes anywhere close. Wishing Tata all the very best.

Yess. You got that one right. 5,500 cars a month in the face of some hundred hatchbacks from bestseller Maruti is no small feat. And, more so with all that negative performance of the recent past. Now, TM sure looks resurgent. I would love to see them excel. Hope Nexon takes the game to next level.
The Tiago is superb all-rounder in it's segment, no denying that. :thumbs up
However, had Tata taken care of the below two aspects, especially the Petrol mill, then who knows, it could have eclipsed the 10-12K mark as well on sales charts.
From the TBHP Review:
Quote:
• Mediocre 3-cylinder engines. Petrol, especially, is unimpressive
• Low refinement levels. NVH package has many holes
|
The market has titled in favour of petrol now. So, it makes all the more sense.

With the Tiago JTP due to be out very soon the power aspect should be taken care off.

I think the original post was only for the Tiago. The 500,000th vehicle would include the Nano and the Tigor as well. Not sure if any others are built there.

Yes, the original post was for the Tiago. The plant started with Nano, and now manufactures at least the Tiago and Tigor.
