re: The Tata Nexon AMT

2018 Tata Nexon AMT launched at Rs 9.41 lakh

  • Available only in top-spec XZA+ variant for now.
  • Rs 10.3 lakh for the diesel (ex-showroom, Delhi).
  • At this pricing, the Nexon AMT petrol undercuts the top-spec EcoSport Titanium+ AT (Rs 11.37 lakh) by a very significant Rs 1.96 lakh. Although, Ford offers a lower spec Trend+ variant which Nexon doesn't.
  • Compared to the manual top-spec trim, the AMT versions cost about Rs 40,000 more.
  • The diesel-automatic Nexon has no direct competitors.

re: The Tata Nexon AMT

Based on the reviews so far, looks like the diesel AMT variant offers decent drive-ability. Wish there was a diesel variant on offer (probably XZA?) which costed sub 10L INR in Karnataka. Would result in a OTR price reduction of atleast 50K INR due to lesser road tax for sub 10 L cars.

Do we know if teambhp was invited for the media drives? Any idea when the teambhp review of the AMT variants would be out?

I think this statement (Source:Autocar/TATA) is misleading. Let me explain.

The price difference between XZA+(P) over XZ+(P) is 60,000
Whereas Autocar/TATA compares XZA+ Dual tone roof (P) and XZA+ Single tone roof (P) to come up with this 40,000 difference.

Note that there is dual tone roof variant with AMT as well which costs 20,000 more than XZA+variant.

I don't understand this logic of charging 60K premium for the petrol AMT and 70K premium for Diesel AMT !

Ideally considering the potential sales of diesel AMT, the difference should be lot lesser here. After all, its the same AMT hardware with different softwares in petrol and Diesel variants.

I think TATA believes that there is no competition for Diesel AMT variants and have taken this route. Time would tell.

However, they've priced it fairly well (with Zest, they're charging 80k premium for AMT)

But this 20k premium for dual paint job is plain ridiculous. or Am i missing something here ?

You are right, the XZ+ to XZA+ for petrol is +60K in ex-showroom Bangalore.
Still, its a good price and the Diesel AMT being 10K more is of no problem. I think, Tata wants to take advantage of the "first" mover. Thats OK.

Prem.

Given that diesels have a higher peak torque and hence a bigger clutch, there could be a possible difference in the size (load capacity or stall load) of the AMT actuator used on the clutch end.

re: The Tata Nexon AMT

Don't know why, but in AT guise, Nexon suddenly starts appearing overpriced.

Just compared EcoSport Trend+ Petrol AT with Nexon XZA+ AMT (single tone).
The price difference is merely Rs. 30,000 and in that money you get a lot in Ecosport.

Bigger and better touch screen unit with Nav
More refined and powerful motor.
Comparitively smoother CVT gearbox
Traction Control
Proven product

The Ecosport comes with a conventional torque converter, not a CVT transmission.

Also, like mentioned above, the Trend+ AT misses out on a lot of features as compared to the top of the line XZA+ of the Nexon, although they are priced almost the same. Bring the Titanium+ AT into the picture, and you begin to realise how much VFM the Nexon AMT actually is (the likeability of the AMT transmission aside). Plus, you can go home with a diesel automatic as well, which is not the case with the Ecosport.

Being a Tata fan, Glad to see all of you standing in guard of Nexon.
Actually, I have posted what I was expecting many to say.
Glad that I am proved wrong.

I was just wondering whether the Mahindra TUV AMT which is also a C-SUV could be considered a competitor. I’m sure some folks would look at it as a diesel automatic contender in the category.

Well, I remember in one of the reviews, the reviewer mentioned that the vents do not have any AC connection, its just a blower.

re: The Tata Nexon AMT

A friend of mine had booked a test drive for the AMT and it seems like a brand new car was driven to his home to assess parking as well. Along with a few pics, I have also shared the price chart for each variant in Bangalore.

The AMT seems to be almost a lakh costlier than their respective manual counterparts.
