We have been told that Hyundai is targeting monthly sales of 10,000 units for the new Santro (AH2). The Santro is expected to provide a significant boost to the total sales, which are already at an all-time high. The carmaker registered a growth of 5.2% in FY2018 with a record domestic sales of 5,36,241 units. In August 2018, Hyundai's cumulative sales grew by 3.4% compared to the same period last year.

Hyundai will reportedly launch the new Santro on October 23, 2018. Meanwhile, training sessions for Area Sales Managers are already underway.

Hyundai's new small car is expected to replace the Eon. Like the Santro, the new model is likely to feature a tall-boy design. Reports suggest that it could be offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, while transmission options might include a manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT).

That they are targeting 10,000 units will not be over expectation. I am sure they are betting very high on this car to get back the Mojo in B1 segment and they will do everything they can to achieve this.

But I am wondering how they are going to significantly boost total sales. Hyundai as we know have been utilizing close to 90-95% of their total production capacity. They are consistently dispatching close to 45K units on average every month. They have in the past crossed 50K but very few times, the last during Sep 2107. For them to prioritize Santro production, they have to completely stop Eon and still reduce dispatch of some of their other vehicles. Will be interesting to note which will bear the brunt for Santro. With Swift doing blockbuster business, they cannot reduce i10 dispatch. With Baleno dispatch increasing [ MSIL even released a statement saying they have increased 30% production of Baleno to reduce waiting time], they cannot reduce i20 dispatch. They wont reduce Creta dispatch since it's their money minting machine. Verna is finally getting better of City now so they can't risk that as well. I guess Xcent will be the eventual victim at least in the initial months.

As consumers, it is win win situation for us to see that top 2 manufacturers are facing issues of production constraints to meet market demand clap:

Hope and wish for Kia also to get such headache soon :uncontrol

It's quite possible for Hyundai to sell 10K vehicles per month, considering that the Eon itself used to sell close to 7K units per month. And the old Santro used to sell more than 10K units consistently which had established Hyundai as a dominant player in Indian market by leaping ahead of Tata to go to second position. And this new generation Santro (AH2) seems to have all the qualities of a Hyundai and may able to fulfill Hyundai's wishes.

I am wondering where those 10k will be caved out from. The considerable impact may be on Tiago numbers, it's easier to sway a prospective Tata buyer than a Maruti customer. Other manufacturers either don't have similar offering or sell too few.

In my opinion, given the how iconic brand Santro was, it will not be a big problem to target 10k Santros in a month. The only thing they need to do is price it very well. As for the room for a new model in the market, new Honda Amaze is doing surprisingly high without affecting other manufactures.

Looks like the next-gen Santro

Looks like they want to target the Wagon R which sells 10000+ monthly. Hope the prices will only get competitive to the buyers in the segment.

Isn't that what everyone wanted? I mean - I always wanted to see the WagonR v/s Santro rivalry unfold once again, ever since this thread was started.

These two tallboys changed the face of entry level hatchbacks, without a doubt. Good news is - with the Santro back to challenge MSIL, we can be sure the next generation WagonR will be more competitive than the evolutionary changes seen over the last decade.

New Hyundai Santro to target Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Pre-bookings for the new Santro will commence October 10, 2018, and will remain open till October 22, 2018 – the day before the car's official launch.

While the new Santro will be wider than the original, it won't be quite as tall. At 1,560mm, the new Santro will be the same height as its chief rival, the Celerio.

That being said, Hyundai has reportedly worked on making the new Santro's cabin very roomy. The focus has been on making the back seats a really comfortable place to be; and to that effect, Hyundai will also give the new Santro rear-AC vents – a first for its class.

Higher variants of the new Santro will get a touchscreen infotainment system, which could potentially have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Two airbags and ABS could be standard across the range, since Hyundai would likely have readied the new Santro to meet India's updated crash test norms.

Under the hood of the new Santro will be a revised version of the original's 1.1-litre, 63hp Epsilon petrol engine. In the new Santro, this engine is expected to be even more fuel-efficient, with a claimed efficiency figure of 20.1kpl.

Not sure if this is posted before. New Santro will look like this (SRK designs are 95% close to actual design)

Looks neat, but somehow I like the old design before retiring. It was simple yet attractive.

The AH2 is all set to be named SANTRO.

rl:rl: After all that shouting out from the rooftops & 4 lakh votes, they're naming the Santro....the Santro!

All of these are good PR moves. Internally, the companies already finalise the name. This is just for 'engagement'.
