I test drove the Endavour some 6yrs back when it was launced first, i immediately told the manager that the engine was very under powered and the gear shift had a lot of rattling in it. He said that its tested in the thougest train and its a great combination. I told him clearely that its never going to sell with such bad worth for cash.

What i dont understand is how come a big company like FOrd cant predict what the responce will be with such a bad combination of gear box and engine that even an ordinary guy on the road can find fault with. Couldnt they have not know that the 15lakh mark customer is a intelligent fellow who has driven vehicles that are better than what this guy is offering and he wont be surprised!!

Are they stupid or did they expect nothing better than what they where selling now.

, you're right, sorry about that, I mixed up the KW-bhp conversion! Yah, this is ONE healthy output, no doubt about that!

Ford has overcome most of the flaws of the old endeavour-better interiors, engine, transmission, etc
But another bigg flaw in the old endeavour was its suspension, has it been changed in the new one??

Reg the suspension, it is leaf spring, the spec says! Thats a bit of worry for me. But I have driven Ranger a lot and it felt ok on the ground and not sure about the durability. Still leaf spring a preferred solution in cars/suvs?

Nope leaf spring ain't the preferred solution. Ride quality of Endeavour along with low seats (lack of under thigh support) are two major downsides.

I have driven the 4 ltr Ford Explorer, but due to the enormous bulk of the Ford SUV platforms, even that felt a bit underpowered with around 210-240 bhp. And here comes a Ford Endeavour with just 143 bhp ... of course improved from the earlier non-existant bhp.

I wonder why Ford can't just plonk in its 4.0 ltr engine in all its Endeavour/Ranger/whatever SUV's and save itself the trouble and ignominy of being called underpowered.

If i remember correctly, ACI said long back in its TD of the thailand endaevour that, although its still leaf springs, the ride quality is better than what we have in the endeavour here.

I remember that as well but I take car mags reviews with a grain of salt. Nothing like testing it on our Indian roads.

The price of the car will shoot up like crazy and the FE will shoot down, something which Ford nor its customers want.

They're pushing it aggressively no doubt - just got a call from my earlier Ford dealer asking me if I wanted a TD & when.

Their full page ad (though the same as their website) in the TOI today looks good

OT: My 1,111th post, magic number what!
