Hyundai's pricing & strategy
Accent GLE: 5.3L
Verna i: 6.2L
Accent GLS: 6.3L
Verna Xi: 6.4L
Accent VIVA: 6.5L
Accent VIVA CRDi: 6.8L
Verna XXi: 6.9L
Accent CRDi: 7.2L
Elantra GT: 7.2L
Verna CRDi: 7.4L
Elantra CRDi: 8.7L
These are the prices at the time of Verna launch and doesn't include discounts - Accent & Elantra came with huge discounts.
From the list its clear that Accent & Verna overlap. For what ever reason Hyundai didn't want to withdraw highend variants of Accent to make way for Verna. I guess this confused the buyers.
One more thing, when Verna was launched, the newspapers were flooded with advertisements on discounts on Accent. Apart from the horses pic, not much of Verna.
Did Hyundai miss the trick here?

Well, according to the other thread the Verna has flopped! Only 900 odd units have been sold in December (while some state that Accent sales have been included in this figure).

Is the Hyundai Verna a flop ?
Hi guys, Is it true that the Verna hasn't done well? There are very few new Verna's when compared to the Ford Fiesta on the road these days. If Hyundai hasn't sold enough Vernas even though it boasts of a great diesel engine, what could be the reason for this?

Although not as many as the Fiesta, but I spot quite a lot of Vernas on Delhi roads. Most of them are the CRDI versions.
I think the initial reaction to the car was that it was an ugly car. But somehow the looks have grown over me (even though I dont own one). I think the sales are improving by the word of mouth publicity about the engine.

What are you talking ? Atleast in NOIDA and Delhi one can see more Verna "VGT"s than fiestas for sure. Doesn't the VGT have a waiting period? that shows its in demand.

Flop is not the word I would want to use. There are more Verna's in Bangalore and parts of Tamil Nadu I visited a few days back than the number of other new cars that have been released all put together. Verna sales seems to have carried on from where the Accent left. Maybe slightly lesser in magnitude but I see a lot of cars these days.

I don't think verna is a flop, atlest not the CRDI. Here in bangalore i see a lot of verna CRDI but only few petrol ones and the other day had been to coastal Karnataka and even there i saw a lot of them.
