This is incorrect, Volvo has top down launch approach, atleast since last few models. Start with top end model (inscription) and then bring in lower spec. This is something they have been highlighting in media presentations as a differentiation Vs their competition.

Re: 2017 Volvo XC60 launched at Rs. 55.90 lakh

Just checked with Bangalore volvo, there is nothing called as launch edition. It's one variant called inscription which has been launched and others will launch eventually.

I think you misunderstand. The launch edition is not a variant. The variant/trim is Inscription. As part of the launch, Volvo is offering extra features, for a limited time, on the Inscription. During the launch of the car, they specifically called it out as the "Launch Version".

See the below image from the launch

This makes more sense, yes tech pack or optional pack is an add on in certain markets whereas in current spec it is included.

Maybe when the CKD starts they might make it cheaper, but without Tech pack. What an idea Volvo

Re: 2017 Volvo XC60 launched at Rs. 55.90 lakh

I wonder if the launch versions will completely sell out, I am very inclined towards the top end 3.2 Ford but give me some hefty discounts on this & ill think twice, The goodies are just very tempting & man won't the car always stand out!

Re: 2017 Volvo XC60 launched at Rs. 55.90 lakh

Volvo XC60 Was Euro NCAP's Safest Car Overall Tested In 2017.

In the Adult Occupant category, the posh crossover received an almost perfect score: 98 percent.

Quote:
With almost 70 cars tested, 2017 was by far the busiest year for the European New Car Assessment Programme. One model managed to stand out from the pack and that was the second-generation XC60, which was crowned as the safest car overall

Man... A nice used volvo is definitely on the cards vs a fortuner or something. These guys are going great guns. I never liked the beemer or the merc personally.

What are the upkeep costs typically for these volvos?

Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts, based on what the dealer told me, Volvo India has only given dealers an allotment plan till March 2018 for the XC60. I saw the actual e-mail that the dealer received from Volvo. Two ways to interpret this:
1) Being a CBU right now, Volvo is only importing so many cars for India, which they expect will run out by March, after which the CKDs will be sold, which wouldn't have the Tech-pack.

2) They are just trying to create a hype in the market.

Whatever the reason, going by the bookings in Hyderabad, with a waiting period of almost 3 months already, I would be surprised if there are any launch versions left out by the end of March. Having said that, given the fact that not many buyers (and dealers going by mjumrani's post) know about the existence of a Launch Version, it's possible there might be a few available post March, but I doubt you will get a big discount on them.

The power delivery in XC60 is very good. It was a bit unusual experience because it drove like a petrol but with diesel noise. Significantly improves driving in city. Transmission did it's job, nothing to fault but not sporty either. You will not be disappointed by the power on tap. I am told the demo car has some performance (polestar?) update.
Though it was nice of them to update you about it, should they be doing so for TD cars? Wont one feel cheated if the car wont perform when they buy one?

Thanks for the review. Hope the XC40 comes loaded and priced well too.

Thank you. What are the service intervals? And what is the warranty period? Extendable?

10,000kms or 1 year. Basic warranty is 2 years and it is extendable upto max 4 years, it costs Rs 1.5L for all volvo cars irrespective of model.

A common ploy to use easy funds of customers. Volvo like others must be sending cars to Dealers on standard payment terms which are most of time Net 15 or 30 Days.

I am being offered an AMC for 3 years or 60K Kms for 2 lacs, which I think is over the top.

Would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts on this?

Not worth it at all, over the course of 3 years the maximum you would spend is 1L - 1.2L. I was offered same at 50% discount but turned it down and got free extended warranty which i felt was much better deal.
