Competition for TATA’s Dream (1 Lakh Car)!

In a surprising move, Indian IT hardware company Xenitis has forged a joint venture with China's Guangzhou Motors to float a company, aptly called Global Automobile.
Global Automobiles has initiated discussions to roll out a low-cost car in India. "We are in talks with automobile manufacturers from Singapore and China to launch a sub Rs 1-lakh car and are hoping to enter into a formal agreement with one of them very soon," the Global Automobiles Chairman, Mr Santanu Ghosh, said.
The company is setting up 50 dealerships in the east and about 30 dealerships in towns like Chandigarh, Goa, Pune and Gurgaon. With margins already under pressure, the Indian auto industry has an other worry round the bend.

Its not only that but our own Maruti is determined to give competition with a 660cc car to be rolled out by 2008 end according to reports by Economic Times which specified that Suzuki will be lauching this car having more than 50 bhp of power with a front wheel drive technology...amazing that this vehicle will be more fuel efficient as well as with more power than M800 and even the Alto.

My opinion is if its launched ,then M800 and Alto sales drop and may be have to be phased out like the old Zen..

With so much political trouble in West Bengal regarding land acquisition for Tata's by the Govt. it remains to see when their 1-lakh car can actually roll

MAruti had proposed another idea... To slash m800 prices... people would buy it for 20k odd more than the 1L lakh car...
