Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India

Big thanks to Gourav for sharing this with fellow enthusiasts!

The Suzuki Solio (premium hatch based on the Wagon-R) has been spotted testing on Indian soil for the very first time - at Gurugram, Haryana.

Looks like the Suzuki Solio! The boxy shape appeals to me, but I'm not sure on the 3rd row of seats. They would be very cramped or just for kids at best.

Re: Wagon R 7-Seater revealed in Indonesia. Possible India debut?

Great scoop. The rear does not match with any of the previous designs, and the kink in the boot door is very non-WagonR type design. Also, bit amazed that it is running on Temp registration and not test ones, and it is not camouflaged either.

Edit: It looks like Solio, as rightly stated by blackwasp above.

But it doesn't seem to be 7 seater. It seems a premium WagonR with Omni style sliding doors!

I think the 7 seater is possible. The car in your link has dimension of 3710mm, and has a fairly decent boot and rear seats, as shown in pics.
Maybe they launch something like an extended wheelbase version in India (under 4m length), they offer twin versions of the car, 1/2 benches like the yesteryear's Omni.

I think this car will highly useful for multiple reasons, especially for families big on size, tight on budget and space, or for transporters looking for a cheap people mover.

The Indian "kidnapping" car finally get's an upgrade, maybe? :P

Suzuki Solio 'Hybrid' - A Hybrid technology that Maruti Suzuki will continue to pursue and to be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo. (though not friendly in terms of tax benefits)

Hence Maruti could be testing this technology in Indian Traffic conditions. Suzuki Solio as such may not be launched in India.

Re: Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India

This looks like Suzuki Solio. Maybe Wagon-R will be discontinued soon and will be replaced by either this as facelift or launched as Solio. Though I owned boxy shaped WagonR earlier but I feel in today's era of fluidic and aerodynamics this shape wont appeal much.

Re: Is this the new Wagon R

Saw this today morning while travelling from Gurgaon to Dhaula Kuan. Seemed to have 7 seats, is this the new Wagon R? The car was preceded by a new Black Swift and both the cars had temporary number plates.

Also have a 3 second video of the same, will try to upload from phone itself.

Re: Is this the new Wagon R

Yes. Thats the Suzuki Solio alright, and there have been a couple of spottings of the same car already -

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...n-india-407154

I doubt they would replace WagonR with it - due to cost concerns. So my bet would be a new segment between WagonR and Ertiga. Ertiga might move up the price ladder with the upcoming generation change.

Re: Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India

Thanks to Gaurav Kapoor for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India-solio2.jpg

The Wagon R-based Suzuki Solio was seen in Gurgaon in January 2018. The latest spy images confirm that the car has been out testing on the streets of Delhi once again. In addition to the upright rear fascia, the spy images reveal the Solio's electric sliding rear doors and quarter glass. The test car has a rear spoiler that extends from the roof and appears to have a shark fin antenna on top. In one of the images you can see the Solio's blue backlit instrument cluster as well.

The Solio is a 7-seater, sub-4 meter mini MPV. In the Japanese market, the Solio is offered with a hybrid powertrain, which comprises of a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 90 BHP and 118 Nm of torque and a motor generator unit (MGU). The engine is mated to a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

While the Suzuki Solio has been spotted in India on a couple occasions, it is still unclear whether Maruti will launch the model in India.

Re: Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India

Is Maruti trying to create another segment within "People Mover". So far there is only Go+ with such configuration (3995 mm with three row seating) and if launched Solio would be next.

I am considering it similar to the compact sedan segment development in India wherein Tata introduced the compact sedan segment with IndigioCS and Maruti took over; introduction of Solio might do something similar to Datsun's entry in MPV under sub-four meter.

Are there no safety concerns here?

GO+ seriously lacks on active and passive safety and with WagonR platform, I doubt if one should expect any good safety rating for Maruti Solio.

Will be interesting to see nonetheless with Toyota at one end and MSIL / Datsun at the other "Moving People Around"

Re: Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India

Correct me if I am wrong but this would be second offering from Maruti in the sub-4 metre+seven seats people mover category after the discontinued Versa, right?

Versa at 3675 mm used to have two rows of bench seats at the back till it was stripped down and rechristened as Eeco with 5-seats. Although, there was no sub-4 metre rule back then.

Re: Scoop! WagonR-based Suzuki Solio caught in India

Thank you for a great scoop, RavenAvi sir.

You truly are the best!

Looking at the pictures, I feel the Solio will take on Mahindra's TUV300. It has the same boxy design as the TUV, and from the pictures, one can expect side facing 3rd row seats, just like the Mahindra.

Power figures are also similar to the TUV300.

If Maruti prices it right, it might take the TUV300 head on, as it is the only 7-seater in its segment at the moment.

Eagerly waiting for more details on the Solio.

Regards,
