No spy shots, international or otherwise were spotted before the unveil of the 4th generation City as well. The 3rd generation City was first spied in India by a BHPian, and it is assumed that the 4th gen City was not road tested in India.

Will mostly be unveiled in India first (the biggest market for the City worldwide) like the last generation - and hence we can't get to know from other markets either!

2020 seems about correct for the India Launch given that they released a Facelift in 2017. That way they can release something that is BS VI Compliant. Honda has communicated before that they plan to continue with both Petrol and Diesel options and have claimed that the iDTEC can easily meet BS VI Norms. A hybrid would be an icing on the cake and I hope they don't overprice it...

Next generation Honda City to come in 2020.

Could get a petrol mild-hybrid option. Likely to come with diesel-CVT combination as well.

Should be an early 2019 launch (March or so). It completes 5 years in November 2018. Would be strange if Honda drags it till the end of 2019 as the usual lifecycle has been 5 years.

Earlier i had the same feeling about early 2019 launch. IIRC the Current City was showcased in Oct/Nov 2013 and price was announced few months later. Maybe they want to concentrate on the Civic launch in early 2019 . But as you said it does feel strange for Honda to delay the Launch of Next Gen City.

If the production version turns out like this, it will be one of the best looking sedans on the market! It looks pretty sleek and modern to me. I just hope they improve hugely upon the declining quality and offers adjustable headrests this time around!

Up until now, It seems that I like every alternate generation of the City and hate the others! I like the Type Z, the ANHC and then this one!

Eagerly waiting for this one!

Cheers!

Re: The 2019 5th-Generation Honda City

One thing I'd like to see changed is the driver visibility is hampered by the high set dashboard of the present City, improvement in NVH and cladding in the wheel wells and firewall. My old Elantra has better visibility out than the City. I think I'd also like the a turbocharged 1.5L petrol for that extra zing along with the hybrid battery pack for the extra boost to give the City unassailable performance, of course along with fatter tyres and discs all round.

I really don't see Honda plonking in the 1.5 turbo in the City here in India, simply because they're not putting the 1.5 turbo in the Civic, which is launching in a few days from now.

Perhaps if they start local assembly of that engine here by then, it might be a different story.

I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong though, and would happily be the first in line to move on from my 2014 City.

Wow, that looks smashing! I hope the production version looks like this.

Here's my wishlist for the new City -

1) The 1.5 i-VTEC is a gem, but it's time for newer engines, Honda! Bring the 1.0 VTEC Turbo as an option atleast.

2) Bring the City back to its erstwhile quality and refinement levels.

3) A Hybrid version instead of the diesel would be tops.

Not wishing for a competitive price tag because that's something Honda is never going to fulfill.

Re: The 2019 5th-Generation Honda City

This car is the top contender to replace my 2009 City iVtec as it celebrated its 10th birthday yesterday (Feb 5).

I am very keen on staying loyal to Honda because my current car has served me extremely well and apart from the regular services, there have been no major episode with the car.

Also, it has been 10 years but that iVtec engine is pure gem!

Having said that, the new Verna is an extremely desirable alternative and the deciding factor will be the interior build quality of the ANHC.

No offence to City owners but I hate the present interiors of the city-- both quality and the layout. And god those awful OEM alloys!

Honda will have to revert to the quality levels they offered in the first, second and third generation.

Re: The 2019 5th-Generation Honda City

What is the tentative date of launch for this car? And is it confirmed that it will come with a hybrid?
Looking for a (tought to find) suitable change from a 3rd gen city

Re: The 2019 5th-Generation Honda City

IIRC The Current Gen City was unveiled in End 2013 and launched in early 2014. It might be first time in recent years that Honda has not launched the City in a 5 year cycle. Quite surprising, since City is their bread and better model. Honda is going the Toyota way of being lethargic in launching cars in our market.

I agree. It's about time Honda brought some new technology to this market - either a turbo petrol or old VTEC engine coupled with a hybrid power train.

The City's old engine tech and interiors is what made me go for a Vento TSI when I changed my ten-year-old dolphin shape City. Honestly, its one reason why I'm not too excited about the Civic either. The 1.2 TSI produces more torque than its 1.8L engine!
