re: The Ford Freestyle. EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 5.09 lakhs

According to a Ford dealer in Bangalore, the Freestyle will be launched on April 22nd.

Does that mean that deliveries will probably commence from May/June?

re: The Ford Freestyle. EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 5.09 lakhs

With the new level of feature saturation in the market, my guess is that Ford would only provide the touch screen infotainment along with 6 airbags ONLY in the Titanium+ variant. This is also along the lines with the New Maruti/Nexa products where only the Alpha trims get the Apple car play unit.

I also feel Ford might not introduce the ‘Titanium’ variant for a while. Just like the Nexon didn’t launch the XZ variant until recently.

re: The Ford Freestyle. EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 5.09 lakhs

Thanks Prathiiik for this post.

That's a quite favorable assessment true to Ford DNA and we expected this from this crossover. This car is smart looking with aggressive character and should ideally fit the bill of enthusiasts. Petrol engine, i.e. Dragon 1.2 litres review is also quite encouraging. Yes, we can compromise on not so good plastics and less features.

Hope Ford makes the pricing tempting enough to make a stir in market.

Why would Ford unveil this 3 months ago and yet not announce prices and nor have it at the dealerships?

It is not a brand new car, even though ford wants customers to perceive it as that. So why have a soft launch 3 months ago and yet do nothing? They created too much buzz way too early, with the camouflaged car being driven by ACI and all that. It is fundamentally a ford Figo with a lot of interior and cosmetic changes.

Ford got the initial buzz about the product right, but the timing of a potential launch is too late. People do not remember what you did 3 months ago especially if it is not in an auto expo or something like that. And more so when the car resembles the existing Figo so much.

I somehow don't like the way Ford is designing its new sedans & hatches for India. It doesn't make me want to go out and get this home. Say, for example, the new Swift [in its top end variant] looks desirable.

The earlier Fords were a gem to drive as well. Ford should stick to its core principals. Precisely why, Endeavor [overall] is a better SUV and EcoSport is the best compact SUV[?] or whatever we can call it.

I saw the Autocar on stands and it has the details of the first drive I guess - saw the Freestyle on the cover page. I remember seeing some report from them stating this has a better ride / handling package. Not sure what has Ford tweaked!

I totally agree with you here. The new Fords don't have the same desirable quotient when compared to the earlier fords. Ford is only to be blamed for this as they are targeting the mass market nowadays. Look at the Figo, it has a stonker of an engine, gives brilliant FE and has 6 airbags still it nether looks desirable nor has it set sales chart on fire.

The global fiesta was a gem of a car but it didn't find any takers. That was a drool worthy car with a very high desirability quotient IMO. I hope ford brings a proper premium hatch and a C-segment sedan soon.

I also don't understand why ford is getting Freestyle when there is already Ecosport in the market. Also if the Figo twins didn't do good numbers I wonder how would the freestyle be a hit.

Its an amazing car but we will wait for a few months until the Automatic version comes out as our ageing Alto needs a replacement this year .

I think just like Honda which has been struggling to sell the Brio based cars thanks to quite uninspiring designs that failed to strike a chord with the car buying junta, Ford is going through a similar thing with Figo based cars. The sooner that these two get fresh new cars as their replacements the better as no amount of tinkering with these designs is going to help either of them.

Freestyle comes up on Ford India's official site. Link

The car will come with Active Rollover Prevention (ARP) and ESC. Doesn't this makes it the most safe hatchback under 10L? Ford has added keyless entry, rear parking sensors and 6.5 inch SNYC 3 system. IMO this looks better than Figo, is not a mere cosmetic upgrade (comes with a new petrol engine) and has better build quality than swift. Only the brown dashboard is out of sync. With cracker of engines this should translate into better sales numbers, if not class leading.

From Ford India’s official Instagram page:

Looks like the Automotive Journalists have already got their hands on the Freestyle.

Reality check -

Once a product has flopped, there is hardly anything a manufacturer can do to revive it. Figo and Aspire haven't clicked in the market and the Freestyle is not going to be anywhere near class leading - in terms of sales.

Its even entering a segment which hardly sells in decent numbers.
