It is a 2.0-litre engine, 121PS@3,800rpm & 280Nm@2,000rpm. So much torque at so little revs! Its going to be very driveable, especially looking at the Verna CRDi engine, which is already so much fun.

I dont think it will be sub 10L either. At the most the base version will be around 10L ex-showroom.

PS : Why the upturned tailights on the test mule?

@Sajo - it seems that the test mule is sourced from some other market, maybe GM india is getting help from there for the new engine.

Same tail lights can be seen over here. (click photo to enlarge)

So you don't recognise it as an Optra. GM is very clever, you see...

Those are the stock lights found in the LT version of the 1.8 Optra, not upturned for sure These lights are found only on the LT version as they have fog lamps in them. If you notice closely they have square lights, whereas normal Optras have round ones.

if i am right the Lacetti CDX comes only in petrol form .. Prolly the one you saw might be a export version which GM is planning to produce in INDIA for the UK market.

Chevorlet has never produced any diesel powered Car so far ... The Lacetti Diesel is being first showcased @ Bologna 2006. I am doubtful if its in INDIA so soon .....

This month's OVERDRIVE has an interview NICK REILLY, President, GM Asia Pacific.

Q: You are conspicous by the absence of diesels in your range.

Reply: "We are defenitly going to address this... But these things take time... The first actual diesel offering will be the OPTRA next year... Beyond that, Aveo will get a diesel, but not for a couple of years... "

Optra CDX - 2 litre crdi. 130 hp in Korea. Detuned for India to around 122-125 hp. Should be available early next year. Only one fully loaded model which should be on par with the Royale.

Goodbye Skoda Tdi

When I see the odd optra passing by I used to wonder where the rest of the optras disappeared suddenly. It is a rare sight to find a optra in chennai at least.

It is a nice looking car and it is biggg. Every one praises its ride quality and road manners. The diesel engine, if frugal, should give it a lease of life.

There are a decent number of optras here in TVM...

Got an oppurtunity to drive one few days back... My friends car... Must say... Very good... Very spacious, nice build, and soaks up bad roads without making a fuss about it...

Just hope the diesel doesnt make it very nose heavy...
