So what could be the reasons? Different type of bumpers or something else or is it just a different way of measurement here? Have they taken off something from the Indian variant or just produced differently?

A couple -

Bumper is different. The US spec has tow hooks, which is not present in Indian spec.

The US spec one [to the naked eye] appears higher and has less overhang.

But, why is the ramp/breakover angle different? As well as the departure angle [the rear bumper looks similar]

The specifications are all in degrees I think and the Indian spec is the middle, neither is it close to normal Compass specs, nor the US spec Trailhawk.

Its pretty confusing. Launching a trail-rated Jeep but under-arming it. The US spec has almost similar approach angle as a Endeavor/Fortuner.

I'd wager that the differences come down to laden/unladen measurements, similar to the variances in Ground Clearance.

Or at least you'd hope so!

I feel the Compass has lost all momentum and launching variants costing double on-road relative to their (more spacious) competition isn't going to give them much of a boost
Also, the feature juggling (no auto Diesel w/ LimitedPlus, no power driver seat, auto headlamp and wipers with Trailhawk) is only going to turn away even the enthusiasts who would be interested in the top spec variants.

Let's wait for the official specifications from Jeep. I noticed that Autocar India Journo's are not very savvy when testing 4WD vehicles due to relatively limited off-road experience. I also noticed that many errors get corrected on their website later.

The reason for deleting the tow hook is explained earlier. However, I don't think it is cost effective to make a different bumper only for India, given the limited volumes they will sell.

May be the Ground Clearance is to be blamed where the US Spec receives 225mm (which is similar number for Fortuner , Endeavour) hence the US spec may have almost similar approach angle as a Endeavor/Fortuner. Where as the Indian variant Trailhawk clearly claims its only 205 mm. Hence the GC & those Angles/Degree figures may be inter-related.

If they price it near the 30L mark, the trailhawk would be dead on arrival. It reminds me of the skoda yeti case.Great product and had decent offroading capability (for a crossover) but was just too expensive for its size.

re: The Jeep Compass Trailhawk. EDIT: Launched @ 26.8 lakhs

I think the Trailhawk, whatever is sales numbers will be a great halo model. This is crucial as Jeep is still very new in this country. The entire range will benefit from this and buyers will be convinced that they are buying a tough vehicle, a real Jeep, the rest of the range is not affordable for the vast majority of customers.

I hope they get over this hype and get on with the automatics across all variants.

I think the most passionate automotive CEO in India today is Kevin Flynn. The kind of conviction and passion he has in his product is heart warming. I wish the sales guys on the floor take him as an inspiration.

ACI review

I like the all black treatment for the interiors, the most practical option for our country. The contrasting red highlights, inserts & stiching look fantastic.

Missing features over the Limited variant

1. Powered driver seat
2. Auto wipers & headlamps
3. Pana sunroof as optional extra

Though it gets the following over the Limited variant

1. Bixeon headlamps
2. Keyless go
3. Cruise control
4. 8.4" touchscreen infotainment
5. 7" MID

0-100 in 12.5 secs

re: The Jeep Compass Trailhawk. EDIT: Launched @ 26.8 lakhs

I got a chance to check Trailhawk today. It is on display in MPS/PPS Motors, Hosur Road - Electronic City.

They are expecting the test drive vehicle to be available later this month.
As per them the price will be around the current Limited Plus model. But I wonder if it’s possible to price very close to current Limited Plus as Trailhawk gets 9AT, BS6 Compliant, Cruise Control, higher GC and various other 4x4 features.

The features that they won't get from Limited Plus are Auto headlamps, Rain sensing wipers, Memory seat, Electronic auto dimming, Powered driver seat.

Looks like they are trying to balance current 4x4 Limited Plus and Trailhawk so that they can price it close to each other. But as per earlier news, BS6 was supposed to take the pricing northwards by 2L. So, it will be interesting to see how they will price it closer to Limited Plus.

People who look for chrome touches around the car will be disappointed.

Here are some pics,

Every country measures it differently. In India it is when suspension is bottomed. US measures it loaded with passengers upto capacity 50% weighing 197.9 Lbs and 50% weighing 170.6 Lbs, and 75% of permissible load in the boot.

A country which measures it in unladen condition will give you the best figures.

Still don't see auto dimming IRVM in a 30L+ car or am I missing something?
