A pair of left-hand drive Volkswagen Polo sedans with 1.6-litre engines were recently spotted sporting some updates. The test mules were spotted on the Pune-Satara highway.

Volkswagen exports the made-in-India Vento to left-hand drive markets including South Africa where the car is badged as the Polo sedan. While the test mules appear to be based on the Vento facelift, the spy images suggest that the Polo sedan might receive an update sometime in the near future.

The exteriors get updated rear bumper with chrome trim, revised tail lights and chrome garnish on the boot lid. The car has blacked-out B pillars and 10-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215 section Bridgestone Turanza tyres. The test car with the Vento badge has a black boot spoiler as well. It has also been reported that the test mule came equipped with front parking sensors, LED headlamps and LED fog lamps. On the inside, the test cars had a large touchscreen infotainment system with 8 speakers. One of the cars had black interiors with leather wrapped door panels.

The '1.6' badge on the rear suggests that the engine under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit. In South Africa, the 1.6-litre engine is offered in two states of tune. The entry-level model gets an 84 BHP / 132 Nm engine, while other variants get a more powerful version with 103 BHP and 155 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic however, the test mule was reportedly equipped with a 7-speed DSG.

Thank you for sharing these on the forum.

I genuinely believe that Germans know how to give minor updates to their old models, and flog them around to keep the sales ticking.

I have seen this car 3 4 times near Tilak Road and Old Mumbai-Pune Highway. It was followed by RHD Polo and Rapid. Must say it looked awesome in person. Especially the rear looks
