Maruti Suzuki is India's biggest carmaker in terms of sales. As we would expect, it's has a big pavilion with a large number of cars on display:


The pavilion is built around the theme of "Transformotion" and spreads over an area of 4,200 sq. m. It has over 18 vehicle models on display in Arena, Nexa and Motorsports zones:


Like 2016, the company has used a white floor and background theme for the regular Maruti cars...


...and black for Nexa products:


It also features a Nexa Music Lounge...

Maruti has showcased the ConceptFutureS today. The vehicle is designed in-house by Maruti Suzuki designers and presents a new design language, which Maruti is likely to use in its upcoming SUVs:


The urban SUV features an upright front end and a large silver skid plate:


The display car has a bright orange body colour, with white accents around the front grille & headlamps and around the fake vents in the bumper:


LED headlamps with daytime running lights...


...which double up as turn-indicators:


White has been used in the holes of the air dam...


... on the A-pillars and around the front windshield. Front panels have sharp top edges on the sides:


Suicide doors, black B-pillars and thick C-pillars:


Side glass area is typical Maruti:


Skid plates on the sides are finished in silver:


17-inch black and orange alloy wheels shod with 205/60 section tyres:

While the interiors of the car have not been revealed to the media, Maruti has sent us an image of the same. The colour scheme of the exterior is carried over to the interiors with ivory as the main colour, an orange accent on the dashboard and doorpads. While the steering wheel is orange, the seat upholstery is ivory in colour. The A-pillars are finished in ivory while the centre fascia has a carbon fibre finish. The dashboard features a "Human Machine Interface" (HMI) in the centre with a spherical design:

A platform with the Suzuki Hybrid system (HEV) has been displayed:


This is like a Prius/Camry and not the silly mild hybrid:


This system powers Suzuki Solio and Suzuki Swift cars manufactured and sold in Japan:


Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) allows the engine to instantly restart after the idle stop, when the engine automatically shuts down to save fuel:


Like other proper hybrids, this one comes with an automatic transmission:




System uses high tension cables:


Battery pack is at the rear and accessible through the boot:

Maruti Suzuki has also showcased its first Concept EV, the e-Survivor at Auto Expo 2018. The company intends to show its commitment to help develop the entire lifecycle of EVs in India including local manufacture of components, charging infrastructure and recycling of batteries.

Maruti has also displayed some engines from its regular range. Here's the 1.0L, 3-cylinder BoosterJet from the baleno RS:


Direct-injection turbocharged petrol unit makes 101 BHP (@ 5,500 rpm) & 150 Nm of torque (@ 1,700 - 4,500 rpm):


The 1.2L, 4-cylinder K12:


This one's used in a number of offerings from the company's stable including the Ignis, Swift, Dzire and Baleno:


The 1.0L, 3-cylinder K10:


Used in smaller hatchbacks such as the Alto, Celerio and WagonR:

The new Maruti Swift made its appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo on the second day of the event. Maruti has launched the car in India at prices starting from Rs. 4.99 lakh. The car is available with the same 1.2L petrol and 1.3L diesel engines as the outgoing car. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT:


Large grille with multiple horizontal slats and headlamps with LED DRLs at the front. The air dam is slim and foglamps get black plastic housings:


Built with 40% high tensile steel, the Swift measures 3,840 mm in length, 1,530 mm in height and 1,735 mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm and an unladen ground clearance of 163 mm:


Glass area is very similar to the outgoing car. A and B-pillars are blacked out:


Rear door handles are mounted on the C-pillar:


Dashboard is similar in design to the Dzire sedan. Unlike the Dzire, the interiors have an all-black theme:


New flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel:


Instrument cluster is not carried over from the Dzire. The dials have a red border to impart a sporty look:


Front seats are similar in design to the outgoing car's:

When are they expected to tell anything about the new Ciaz?

Where is the new Ertiga/MUV which is being widely speculated? I was expecting Maruti to showcase it in the expo. Or is more coming ?

Except the ConceptFutureS and Suzuki Hybrid System, nothing exciting from Maruti Suzuki. Swift has already been revealed. They have spent so much to show regular products with accessories / body kit?
What about Ciaz Facelift ? New Ertiga ? New Wagon R?

Overall the Maruti Suzuki pavillion was quite a damp squib. It was basically a Maruti and Nexa showroom with a stage in the middle that had the 2 design concepts that are far from production. The concept S is probably 2 years away and the e-survivor similar.

They should have got a Ciaz facelift by now and could have shown the Ertiga replacement as a pre production concept like Tata have done with H5X.

Only thing is tomorrow they launch the Swift with prices.

I noticed that the Dzire interiors were black and not the beige that's available in the market. Is Maruti making that change in the coming future? The current beige interiors are such a nightmare.

Both of Maruti's concept vehicles look cartoonish. It's quite clear they won't look anything like this if and when they enter production. Tata has definitely stolen a march on Maruti when it comes to design, with their two new cars.

Probably, there is nothing new to talk about Ciaz

I was also expecting it to be in the Expo with new updates going around in the media for quite some time now.

But, knowing Maruti, I doubt, whether they will do something beyond their regular sticker job.

With Yaris around the Corner, they have no alternative but to come up with a powerful engine. Design wise it is such a beautiful vehicle.
