Mod Note: Our Amaze Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Big shoutout to Suhaas307 for shooting these pictures & his coverage of the Auto Expo. Thanks for sharing!

Highlights:
• Honda has unveiled the 2nd generation Amaze at the Auto Expo, as a World Premiere.

• Expected launch date in India is within the 2018-19 financial year.

• While not everyone loves the new styling, everyone seems to agree that its an improvement over the 1st generation.

• Keyless entry & go, a touch-screen HU, cruise control, adjustable headrests and more have been added.

• Interior space has been improved considerably.

• Build quality is still a bit flimsy, and cost cutting is clearly visible in places.

The Amaze has gone from bug-eyed, to something that looks more synonymous with the Honda family look:

The front is extremely vertical and the hood flat, almost like a City has been squeezed into the mold of a compact-SUV like the Element:

The new Amaze does look more stately and seems to have impressed more people than the old one:

From the rear 3/4th angle, the Amaze looks very Cityeque:

The rear end is blocky, but certainly looks more upmarket than the rear end of the outgoing model:

The big chrome family mustache remains:

With the chrome wrapping around the headlights like eyebrows:

The styling at the front (and rear) is rather sharp and angular:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-04-dsc00088.jpg

Headlights are regular halogen units:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-07-dsc00145.jpg

ORVMs with inbuilt turn indicators look like they might be one of the only things carried over from the old Amaze:

Request sensor on the driver's door:

The display car was shod with 175/65R15 Bridgestones Ecopia rubber:

Taillight plastic wraps over onto the boot lid:

Shark-fin antenna looks a lot classier than the earlier (rather long) rod style:

Plastic flaps positioned in front of the rear wheels aid aerodynamics:

Boot lid gets a release button, as well as a reverse camera:

A look at the underside. Ground clearance and other specifications haven't been released yet:

The 2016 Amaze facelift took the rather poor original interiors a giant leap forward, and this all-new Amaze takes another step in that direction:

The steering gets shiny black trim (vs. the earlier silver):

Multi-function controls for audio and telephony:

Cruise control:

A more classic looking 2-dial instrument cluster (Though I did like the 3rd LCD dial from the earlier Amaze):
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-05b-dsc00306.jpg

Push-button start is a new feature:

Door panels get the dual-tone treatment too, along with the piano-black trim:

Suhaas307 said the seats were more comfortable, soft and supportive compared to the old Amaze:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-frontseatdsc00447.jpg

And yes, this time there's adjustable head-rests, unlike the earlier single-piece design:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-10-dsc00302.jpg

A new touch-screen head unit is integrated into the dashboard:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-12-dsc00132.jpg

And the climate control gets updated too (Note the button for the air recirculation, instead of the rudimentary lever):
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-12b-dsc00140.jpg

The push-buttons for fan speed and temperature have been replaced by rotary knobs:

Piano black trim lines the passenger side of the dashboard:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-13-dsc00119.jpg

A 1.5 Amp USB charging port is a great inclusion, along with the other 2 power sources:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-30-dsc00122.jpg

The serrated gear-lever cover and smartly styled gear-knob look nice:

A look into the footwell. Good to see a dead-pedal:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-32-dsc00307.jpg

AC vents are nothing fancy, but look sleek enough:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-41-dsc00120.jpg

Closer look at the dashboard material:

Sensor for the climate control sits atop the dash:

IRVM is sized & mounted similarly to the 1st gen Amaze:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-44-dsc00313.jpg

Grab handles are the fixed type (rather than foldable):

Interior - Rear

Rear door pads get the dual-tone treatment too, along with a darker cloth patch around the grab handle:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-01-dsc00298.jpg

Suhaas felt like the spaciousness of the cabin has been improved in all dimensions:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-02-dsc00323.jpg

Here's 6'3" .Anshuman sitting in his driving position:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-03-dsc00410.jpg

And 6' Vid6639 managing to sit behind him, with just a touch of space to spare:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-04-dsc00407.jpg

We found these felt patches (apparently for the ISOFIX) a bit out of place:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-05-dsc00329.jpg

Though they do stick out awkwardly on the rear bench. Wonder if we'll see these in the production version?
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-06-dsc00330.jpg

12v socket for rear passengers:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-07-dsc00128.jpg

The underside of the boot lid is stripped bare:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-e2-dsc00297.jpg

The boot itself is fairly wide and tall, however, it isn't very deep - which greatly reduces the usability:

Engine

While Honda hasn't released any official specifications yet, it seems most likely that the new Amaze will continue to be powered by the same 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel:
Honda Amaze @ Auto Expo 2018. Now launched at Rs 5.60 lakhs-e4-dsc00385.jpg

Insulation missing from under the hood. This was provided in the old Amaze. Hope it's something that will be present in the final production cars:

Thread moved out from the Assembly Line.

Very good improvement over the previous generation, with only one major issue - looks a bit boxy from some angles due to the flat non-sloping bonnet.

I love this new design! Leap years ahead of the ugly current design. Though build quality is iffy and the compact vehicle segment itself is an abomination, this car will surely be hit despite it’s weak iVtec and crude iDtec engines.

Proper mini-City.

Wow! Amazing improvements in the overall appearance of the Car. A facelift in real meaning. Honda Amaze is no more an extended version of Brio.

Looks generations ahead when compared to old Amaze. The boxy looks give character and this design does manage to stand out in the crowd. If only they can take care of the Diesel sound insulation, this is a sell out product.

That's actually a pleasant one from Honda, they actually managed to make the Amaze look good. The new family face (now popular with the Civic) has actually worked pretty well here. The exposed boot-lid is a real eyesore though!

Atlast a much needed facelift for the Amaze. No more is it a Elongated Brio, looks more of a shortened City! Kudos to Honda for getting the design and the rear legroom right as a substantial sales of the sub 4 metre sedan segment is from cab owners.

The styling is way different, and dare I say, a change for the whole segment.

Was fed up of droopy front ends in the sub 10 lakh segments , and this is a refreshing change for once.Love the way both the bonnet and boot comes in a single straight line. Reminds me of the present Ford Taurus somehowstupid:

But the interiors feel more of an evolution. Maybe cause the previous facelift was so comprehensive ( a la MB product lifecycle)

Any news of the Diesel + CVT combo ?
ACI reports there will be one. Felt weird, cause other than Audi a few years back, haven't heard of a CVT+diesel combo ever since.

Yeah, yeah CVT, bad to drive blah blah. But in a segment where ther main competitor offers AMT, a CVT wouldn't be that bad.

The Amaze finally looks decent. Safety ratings etc. are perhaps a work in progress, but Honda is unlikely to make tin-cans out of its cars. They price it at a premium, but their products are not compromised.

Good to know that the compact sedan segment will witness some more competition.

This one looks more appealing and desirable. Will surely make an entry into contender list for sub 4 m buyer list. The updates are comprehensive, however I fear of:
1. Useless cost cutting measures like no boot lid cover, hood insulation, no adjustable rear headrests.
2. Thin metal sheet.
3. Botched up pricing for top end variant which has all the bells and whistles.
4. No Android Auto / Apple Car

I hope I am proven wrong!!

I think the face lift is surely in the right direction, perhaps a photo from a little bit further would have helped. I hope the flat front aerodynamics does not affect the fuel efficiency too much. the tail pipe looks incomplete, i remember the older model had it bent slightly downwards. Waiting to see how the MID looks, I too prefer the big blue LCD display from the previous generation.
