If it's priced ₹10 lakhs - 13 lakhs, It not only challenges mid size sedans of its own category but a level lower below, which include upcoming Honda Amaze and other sub ₹10L compact segment. With growing trends about Safety and CVT, which were kept as premium offerings among all brands is now going to break. All thanks to the competition if this is the case others have to follow as well.

If the Yaris succeeds, I hope Toyota should bring a raised hatch/C-SUV as well to provide better options in the segment as well.

Sub ₹10L price also makes me think sooner or later we are going to see Yaris Ola/Uber cabs.

Doubt that, unless Toyota plans to launch their 1.4 diesel mill. Barring few Kwid's, Wagon-R's, Ola/Uber market runs on diesel. For taxi needs Toyota will be more than happy to sell Etios/Liva.

I doubt that. The Etios VX-D, though not the preferred Taxi variant, retails at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 8,81,800 in Pune.
The cheapest J would still be about 1.2+L more expensive than the most expensive Etios, with the wrong fuel type too.

I am hoping that the price of the Yaris forces Honda to seriously re-think the expected pricing for the Amaze. With the Current Amaze VX-CVT itself prized north of 10L rupees on road, the new one needs to tread carefully around the Yaris J.

Good to see CVT being offered on wide range of variants. Glad that toyota offered safety aid on all variants. Though its little late but toyota has really got a spot on product. Just hope they price it well!

Toyota should also bring diesel variant ASAP. Oil burners might have lost some ground in current scenario but it still has a great potential. Also, at the end Diesel variants will boost fleet sales and bring much larger volumes to toyota.

Honda, maruti and hyundai must be really restless due to toyota’s entry in segment

Yes seven speed CVT is available from base version but both J & G trims will not all "all disc" brakes. - Refer leaked brochure.

I am at a loss as to when the engine and transmission are same across the variants, how its has been decided that J & G trim would need lower braking power?

If the variant-wise feature set above is true, a MT with fully loaded safety tech is not an option - VSC, hill-start assist etc. are an option only for the VX variant!

The Yaris sure will set the cat amongst pigeons with 7 airbags as standard !
Others will have to follow suit, sooner or later. Its always better to get basic safety as standard, other features like music system can be added later.

For budget conscious guy like me, for the first time, the base variant of any car makes a lot of sense

I could see references in Autocar, Motorbeam, Drivespark, news18 as well. My first post in our forum is getting noticed a lot, good start I guess

The J & V of the Yaris seem to be the bread and butter models just like the V & VX of the City

The VX Yaris and ZX City will be only for a select few for want to particularly only buy that car for some reason known only to them

Having said that, kudos to Toyota for 7 airbags as standard deployment!

The competition being forced to offer 7 airbags is directly related to the number of customers that the Yaris manages to snatch from them. If the market still blindly goes for the Ciaz or the City, then there would be absolutely no pressure to add them on the other cars. Just look at the Figo/Aspire and the impact their 6 airbags has had on the Dzire or the other compact sedans for reference.

Very good point!

Also, I might add, all the discussion is centered around the speculation it might somehow be ~10L ex-showroom to start. Since its Toyota, it might be still very much possible that :

- ~10L for the base may not be true, it would be more like ~11.5 for the base MT and 12.5 for the base AT.
- ~10L base might be possible, but with a very , very wide gap between variants and also between AT and MT.

As much as I am interested in this as a customer, I am not keeping my hopes up until the actual price is announced.

The 'J' variant might have been thought of, just to negate the sticker shock that people get when they see the starting price of the car. So this might well be <10 lakh ex-showroom. Yes, the gap between the variants might be comparatively wider, so that VX is more or less on par with City ZX.

Touche. Better to wait and watch before getting too optimistic about it.

re: The Toyota Yaris. EDIT: Prices start at Rs. 8.75 lakh

Toyota India had organised a drive recently at Bangalore for it's sales personnel, comparing the upcoming Yaris sedan with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna & the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in terms of driveability, ease of use, features on offer and performance.

Initial reports are extremely promising.

Excellent variant spread. Everything that's needed is available in G. This also guarantees Toyotastic pricing.

BTW, I feel manual will be available in VX also. They have not mentioned manual under G and V also. The only reason the auto gets a specific mention under VX is because it includes paddles in that variant. There is no change wrt manual and as a result they have not mentioned it (IMO).
