re: The Toyota Yaris. EDIT: Prices start at Rs. 8.75 lakh

ACI review says the car is nowhere near Verna forget the City in terms of performance. Read review here:

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-rev...t-drive-407980

IMO this could be a car one could buy for parents than enjoy on own.

So 7 airbags as standard is actually a reality. Kudos to Toyota for that. The all wheel discs are provided to the top two variants.
On the power and FTD front the petrol motor isn't a revv friendly unit and is a no match for even the Verna 1.6. So the City still remains the undisputed king in the NA petrol brigade followed by the Verna.

re: The Toyota Yaris. EDIT: Prices start at Rs. 8.75 lakh

Saw the Autocar review, looks to be a good buy just with respect to the safety aspect without losing any core features for a car in that segment.

Looks like people above 6' is what Toyota had in mind when they designed that armrest. Half the reviewers unable to rest their hands.

Yep. Looks like a typical Toyota - Safe, decently feature packed, decent build, decent looks, decent engine, decent ride and handling etc. But boring somehow when it all comes together.

Not sure how much the "T" badge is going to help them against some very aggressive competition in this segment.

No issues there. The 'T' badge will surely pull customers no matter what the pricing is. Anyway Honda will move City a notch above the current pricing and overprice the Amaze to suit their pseudo-premium image so that Amaze will now occupy the vacated City slot. With manufacturers becoming increasingly greedy and pricing their cars way above its actual price, I am starting to wonder if that sub-4m rule is still required. We must be the only country in the world paying close to a million for a 1.2 engine.

7 airbags as standard is awesome. Kudos to Toyota for that. Isn't this the same engine that is doing duty in the Etios? The Etios is pretty sprightly with this engine. Guess it is due to the fact that it is much lighter.

Little surprised that the Autocar review calls it more of a 4 seater. Looks comfortable enough for 5.

Thinking it could be a good replacement for the 120k run Etios in the family. Lower performance is not a big issue as this will be a chauffeur driven car most of the time and our driver, the way he drives the etios, can do with some toning down.

Edit: Watched a couple of videos now and rear does look cramped in spite of being a flat floor. That is a little bit of a downer. CVT on all variants is again a big plus.

Will there be a Hatch based on Yaris in future from Toyota India? - The premium hatch segment is hot in India, and I am sure Toyota wouldn't want to miss it this time.
There is a hatch in the western markets, with a more modern design, with a Lexussy face.

Unlike their previous attempt, this one seems a promise to India customers.

Very unlikely, that is where 'Toyota -BALENO' hatch will slot at a PREMIUM price.

No. Yaris 1.5 belongs to the RNR family, whereas Etios one belongs to ENR engine family as per Overdrive.

Yaris engine has dual variable valve timing, which is not there in Etios.

Another thing that I read in Overdrive review is that the sloping roof along with rear set seats, taller guys would have problems in the Yaris.

IMO Petrol Ciaz would remain better buy than Yaris, if only the slower ones were to be considered. Plus the mileage numbers aren't path-breaking either.

It may sell well initially, but sales will water down later due too above factors.

It is the same engine as the Etios but with dual VVT-i technology, 'hopefully' its a much better version.

Not very impressed after going through the video reviews. It is a welcome move by Toyota to offer 7 airbags across the range, but apart from that nothing looks exciting !!

I am sure that if they end up pricing it at a premium, it will only boost the sales of City !! and Maruti as usual will eat away the majority of the pie with refreshed Ciaz

re: The Toyota Yaris. EDIT: Prices start at Rs. 8.75 lakh

I have to say, the Yaris reviews are a little underwhelming. I was expecting the performance and handling to be better. The cheaper and older Etios probably beats it on those counts. The back seat doesn't seem to be all the great either.

However, the Toyota brand, equipment levels along with (hopefully) keen pricing could work in its favour. It all depends on the pricing now.

7 airbags and CVT for all trims is the biggest takeaway for me. Hyundai seriously needs to do this to their line-up. I don't get the concept of a top-trim exclusive AT and then an optional above that. Just let the customer chose.
