We all know H5X is based on Land Rover Discovery platform. One big thing all of us would easily miss in the video is the Land Rover Discovery shown as a reflection when H5X SUV passes through the water stream. Nice way to depict the same.

Actually, if you turn the screen upside down and see, the picture clearly is of a Land Rover standing on a beach and the vague reflection is H5X. I have a feeling that this was not intentional. But who knows !

This is how it is actually. They may have done so because the LR was available for real and H5X was only available as a CGI.

Completely intentional !

1) Unmatched Heritage - because of the origins. And the knowledge / inputs that are flowing into the H5X.
2) The image of H5X hazy because the final design is not revealed yet. Expect some small changes to what was displayed.

Great concept from TML - outstanding looks & going by the current lot (the X451 concept, Hexa, Nexon, Tiago & Tigor) from them, one can assume that the innards too will carry the new Tata signature - good engineering and good safety, and above all, outstanding VFM & price point positioning.

I only hope that there isn't too large a window between concept & showroom.

All the MNC's (Hyundai, MSIL, Ford et al) must have come out of their complacent stupor by now & no doubt will be girding their loins!- The reason why TML must keep the momentum going if they intend to keep the lead.

My friend Autospy got quite close to one of the Q501 test mules running around in Pune yesterday.

Here are some of his observations:

Test mule shod with rear drum brakes.


No key slots on door/door handle.


Drum brake at rear.


Wheel arch cladding screwed tight to the body.


Cutout space for a panoramic sunroof.

It is easily accessible from the bonnet in the Hexa, why would you try reaching it from the wheel well?
I got the bulbs replaced in just 5 minutes, maybe even less! If it is TASS that has done this gimmick, change the dealer to a better one who knows what he's doing!

I saw this car near Wakadewadi underpass, Pune, last week. The front grill had Land Rover badge. So I thought they were testing an engine as I could see some hardware on the dash on front passenger side.
The logo is seen clearly in the last photo of this post as well.
Am I missing something here?

@Ravenavi, I am missing the point. Tata has presented concept of the SUV ( 501 ) at the Autoexpo. Here we see the mules in LR Disco skin. How are these mules related to the displayed concept ? or was the concept just that ? I still dont think that the new models will resemble the LR Discovery too much.

Buoyed by the fantastic response at the 2018 Auto Expo (it was easily THE car of the Expo, IMO), Tata Motors prepares to start it's first 5-seater premium SUV's production.
Vendors have been informed and part/component supplies are underway.
Expect the first original (non-Discovery top hat) test mules on the roads from next month onwards.
Launch is scheduled towards the end of Q1-2019.

The concept version’s headlamps will make it to the production model as well. The overall shape of the H5X will remain the same but some of the curves on the body could be made smaller to look more pleasing than ‘in your face’. Other changes will include smaller wheels and completely new interior, which will look more like the one on the Nexon rather than the one on the concept version.

The H5X will use the Land Rover L8 platform, which is also used by cars like the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The platform has been re-engineered to suit the Indian budget car market. The H5X will borrow the 2 liter turbocharged diesel engine from the Compass, but in a lower state of tune – 140 Bhp and 320 Nm. The 6 speed manual and 9 speed automatic gearboxes are also expected to be borrowed from the Compass.

I have ink-outlined over the 7 seater's outline in the Impact 2.0 design video due to my excitement on how the new SUV would look admittedly with my very limited GIMP skills. I have shared the same. This looks like a good contender for the Safari badge and a contemporary rendering of the Safari feel. What do you all say?

The red screen behind made me think for a second, mood lighting feature on the panorama roof .
May be Tata can offer on higher trim an electro-chromic panorama roof or a smart glass which changes color based on mood lighting selection or ambient temperature. Am I asking too much from Tata already?

Looks like another Swift vs Punto story! Not sure how would compass sell for more price, while TATA offers similar package for lower price!
