Tata Harrier diesel automatic spied for the first time!

Quote:
Tata will offer the Harrier with the option of a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission in addition to the standard 6-speed manual gearbox
Quote:
the same transmission on offer in the Hyundai Tucson SUV
Quote:
Both, the 6-speed manual and the 6-speed automatic will be mated to the newly christened Kryotec 2.0L engine, which is Tata Motor’s name for the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. On the Harrier, the engine will make in the region of 140hp, while a larger seven-seat version of the SUV will get the engine in 170hp tune

If Tata is still testing the automatic, does this mean it won't be offered at the launch? I hope this is not the case.

Seems to have been inspired by the landing gear on aircraft It is too prominent for the function it carries (in a time where modern cars have either electronic locks or foot operated locks)

We have had several discussions in the past on the 7 seat version and there has been some speculation in the media of it being tested. On further examination of the only definitive picture of the 7 seater (from the expo video) I have reached the following conclusions:-

The 7 seater is not just boxier from behind but has an upward sloping/stepped roof(like the Safari) and hence suffers a serious degradation in the looks department without the roof rails.

The 7 seater is longer than the 5 seater(There is more overhang after the rear wheel) and based on the stated maximum length capability of the Omega Arc platform looks like its almost 4800 mm which is 10 mm longer than even the Hexa and 200 mm longer than the Discovery Sport.

Given the above the 7 seater is a much bigger and heavier vehicle above it is a given that it will need thorough testing for the engine/weight and COG combination and will have completely different driving dynamics.

None of the mules as of today possess the unique characteristics(upward sloping roof/roof rails) which cannot be camouflaged to look like the Harrier suggesting testing has not even begun.

Given that the Harrier has been extensively tested for about 1+ years I think it would be another 1-2 years(2020?) till the 7 seater is launched. This is also suggested somewhat with both the Storme and Hexa announcing new versions and minimal feature upgrades.

I don't claim to know more than Tata but to me it looks like a missed opportunity with an ageing XUV, much more expensive Fortuner/Endeavour and much less capable Innova Crysta being the competition it was a good time to establish a leadership in the flagship SUV space.

Spotted testing in production-ready form with production-spec taillights and new 5-spoke chunky alloys on the roads around Pune by Maloy Debnath.

Exclusive: Tata Harrier Bookings Open On October 15

Quote:
Tata Motors has been revealing details about the upcoming Harrier compact SUV for some days and carandbike can now exclusively confirm that the company will start accepting the bookings for it on 15 October 2018. The Tata Harrier is one of the most hotly anticipated launches in the passenger car market. S N Barman, Vice President, Sales & Network, Passenger Vehicle Division, Tata Motors has confirmed the news to carandbike saying, “We will start accepting bookings for the all-new Harrier for an amount of ₹ 30,000.” Further sharing details about the pricing and deliveries, Barman added, “We are evaluating an introductory price for the Harrier when we will launch the SUV in January 2019 and we are also planning to start the deliveries within a month of the launch.”

The Tata Harrier is one of the most awaited launches of 2019 and is going to play a bit of a flagship role in the Tata Motors line-up. Dealers have also confirmed that the Harrier will have a dedicated space inside Tata showrooms, with a themed off-road background display. Tata plans to have specially assigned sales executives to brief potential customers about the SUV. Moreover, the company will also have select mechanics who are being trained to service the Harrier.

Isn't October too early to accept bookings for a vehicle launching in January? The last thing Tata would want is too long a gap between booking and deliveries. That will surely cause impatience in prospective customers and could lead to negative PR

I think Tata Motors should think outside the box to create a buzz.

Maybe not now, but when the prices are actually revealed, they should offer say a 1 Lakh discount to anyone who has pre-booked. Even if they have 1000 advance bookings, it would translate to a cost of 10 Cr. which should be peanuts for them.

This however will translate to a significant buzz in the market, the intial owners will feel happy (rather than guinea pigs) and increased pre-booking for their future launches.

Wishful Thinking.

Wishful Thinking.
1 Lakh is bit too much to ask, isn't it? Instead they can offer 30K discount (booking amount) to those who pre-booked.

Is this 30K booking amount fully refundable?

Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. EDIT: Named Tata Harrier!-received_485558025288479.jpg

A prospective customer who had shown interest in purchasing the upcoming Tata Harrier on the carmaker's website recently received a call from Tata Motors informing him that bookings for the said SUV will commence on October 15, 2018. Bookings can be made online or via an authorised dealership. However, the exact booking amount and cancellation details were not provided.

When the customer enquired about this at his local dealership, he was told that he could place an order for the SUV by paying a refundable deposit of Rs. 21,000.

The Harrier is based on the OMEGA platform and is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 140 BHP. The engine is likely to be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

There is no word about the SUV's launch date.

Tata is trying to get some customers delay their festive purchase decisions by opening the bookings now. I am sure all prospective creta, xuv500, kicks buyers will now want to wait for the launch and may even book a slot for harrier

I will most likely put a booking amount down the coming week for this car. After looking at the how the first batch if hexas were sold and sorted, i dont have any qualms.

What is the general opinion on this hyundai gear box? I was hoping for the zf unit. Will the diesel auto also come with 4*4 on launch?
