Overall, Tata's ideal line up in my opinion would be Nexon, Harrier 5 seater, Hexa, Harrier 7 Seater.

I think that Tata Motors will discontinue to Safari Storme upon launching the Harrier, or phase it out after launching the Harrier as it still has a sentimental value and legacy but may not be compatible with the BNVSAP Norms kicking in soon. And, the H7X will be launched as next gen Safari Storme, as the original Safari and Storme were both 7 seaters, to carry forward the Safari Legacy and bank on it's sentimental value to customers. The line up will then be like:
Tata Hornbill
Tata Nexon
Tata Harrier
Tata Hexa
Tata H7X (Safari)

That may not work as Safari is a proper 'body on ladder' SUV with full 4X4 capabilities.

Even the Range Rover is a monocoque and has proper 4x4 with a hi and a low range. So no reason for the H7X not to be a Safari.

Although, Safari does makes sense, I feel it has only sentimental value to hardcore SUV lovers. The majority of the car buyers will look for something new from the Tata stable. Everyone see the H7X as a new product in the right direction, even pitting it as a Fortuner rival. The Safari brand name will only make the H7X appear like it is from a few segments below (where the Scorpio lies in). I am hoping Tata gives two separate names for the 5 seater and the 7 seater to give them both distinct identities in their respective segments.

Makes a lot of sense but I don't see Tata naming the H7X as the Safari. If they had to, it would have already come out during the expo. Currently one of the concerns with the Safari is no clarity with regards to its future especially with the introduction of the Harrier and H7X. Tata would have addressed that concern if they intended to name the H7X as the Safari. There is too much sentimental value to do so. Tata holds the Safari along the same lines as its Sierra. They will touch that moniker only when they are absolutely convinced of withholding its legacy. The harrier and H7X is relying on the landcover legacy. The strategy is clearly to present that as the selling point and not distract with their own baggage.

While what you are saying is true I feel instead of borrowing a Toyota moniker and over-hyping the Land Rover legacy if they had simply named it a resurrected Sierra built on Land Rover technology it would have much more appeal. I for one think the Sierra and Safari ads of the 90's really were a class of their own.

On the H7X the Safari is apt now more so since the Storme is the Indian Army's chosen ride. Even Enfield has capitalized on the Indian Army's Bullet legacy.

The new Tata Harrier will be the lead car at the upcoming Mumbai Marathon, which will be held on January 20, 2019.



The Tata Harrier is expected to be launched in the first half of next year. It is based on Tata's new OMEGA platform. The SUV features the Impact Design 2.0 design language with a V-shaped grille and slim LED DRLs and headlamps positioned on the front bumper. The rear features an integrated spoiler and slim wraparound tail lights. Spy images indicate that the Harrier could get dual-tone interiors with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and an instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and a digital colour screen.

The Harrier is expected to be powered by a 140 BHP 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
