re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Thanks Uday. Maybe it is the perspective but the aspect ratio seems weird. Doesn't the height look too short?

Reposting for a quick dekko. The AC Vents sit below the display.

Off topic...

I am an XTA owner and have done close to 25k Kms on my Hexa.

Personally feel those gorgeous 19 inch Gunmetal alloys are one one the best parts of the Hexa.

I drive my Hexa pretty rough and till now, not a single complaint from the Tyres/Alloys/Suspension combo.

Your issues are probably not the norm and close to 50k that ways is quite some mileage.

The Harrier btw is amazingly drool worthy.....Am really tempted to go for the Auto version later in exchange for my Hexa XTA.

For my money, this is one of the best looking SUVs in India - Period.

And if my experience of Tata Hexa XTA is any indication, the Harrier shall have one of the best quality products price bar none and would end up as Car of the Year 2019.

Design, Ride, Dynamics, Engine, Interiors, Features, Price.....What's not to love about this car???

Not only color, the design is also photoshopped. The wheel arches are different. I like it better than the original round one.

There's a massive 300 kg weight difference between Hexa & Xuv which means that there is a certain drop in the performance with respect to power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios of the Hexa.

Now going by the size of Harrier I do feel that it'll be on the heavier side leading to drop in sales to it's competitors.
One of the factor that Hexa heavier than XUV is Ladder vs Monocoque.

re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Spoken to someone in Tata and have seen that booking for Hyderabad at 400+ for harrier. If we expect the same number for all the metros and other major cities , the total bookings should have around 3500 (I took the cacluation of Tier1 and Tier 2 cities from here https://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/ind...-2-cities.html 6 Metros , which is equal to 2400 and we can expect 50+ from Other big cities and there are around 20+ such cities , which is another 1000) . This number looks to me a good figure, especially people are betting without even seeing the car and the whole features. Kudos to Tata

There is a difference in length, width and height between Hexa and Xuv which can be the other reason apart from ladder on frame vs monocoque.

L/W/H Hexa - 4788/1903/1791 mm

L/W/H XUV - 4585/1890/1785 mm

First of all, roby_dk, Congratulations for 500th post!

There could be and should be many reasons behind Hexa being heavier than others, so what? We needn't carry Hexa rather than Hexa will do, effortlessly and elegantly with all this weight (benchmark ride quality is a result of this weight, one of the important factors). And, as long as you are happy with the fuel economy it gives. And if one is that much cost conscious (and not environmentalist) then buy one model lower and save on fixed cost equivalent to saving from higher efficiency for life time.

Tata is dependent on Hyundai for the 6 speed At suitable for its transverse mount engines. Hyundai currently imports the transmission, but they are soon starting manufacture in India, and will need customers then, but they may be having a shortage today.

The 9 speed transverse mount in JLR may probably be too costly for the Harrier, and the Punch Powerglide 6 speed that Tata uses in Hexa is sourced from General Motors. https://www.punchpowerglide.com/site...es/6l50_en.pdf GM being a export only company will not have any issues supplying Tata and Isuzu the transmission that they use in the Trailblazer. Note that Punch does not make a transmission for transverse engines.
One thing good about tata choosing the Punch 6l50 is that it has a sibling that is suitable for plug in Hybrid vehicles https://www.punchpowerglide.com/site...es/6lp2_en.pdf and the Hexa has enough real estate for a plugin Hybrid on the same platform.

re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Shouldn't Tata be getting the AT from manufacturers like ZF, Aisin etc ? I wonder why these are being bought from other car makers. Its one thing for engines but transmissions are usually bought even by the German premium makers from specialist makers.

Autocar's answer above that Tata is preparing for the high demand for auto is laughable. Why would anyone prepare for lower demand variants since the initial push is critical. Launching a slightly pricier auto and then launching lower priced manuals is better than the other way around.

What's commendable is the Buzz that Tata is creating around this vehicle prior to it's launch. Associating with the Land Rover D8 Architecture, Pedigree and what not. The association notwitstanding, neither will it carry over the engines, powertrain or even the same materials to the chassis and suspension components. It woudn't take a logical auto-enthusiast to prevent himself to be swayed by the campaign that is being executed to create hype. However, quite a few folks will fall for, what is essentially, a strategy to give it an aspirational value, so that people do not end up identifying that product wise, it's main rival could just be a XUV500!!

Good point. Although the way I look at it, any manufacturer will grasp at every possibility to make their vehicles have more aspirational value. TATA has often missed out on this tag. With the Harrier they are trying to change all that. So kudos to them for trying. All the LandRover mumbo jumbo aside , the vehicle still stands out in design. It has the looks to capture market share but will it have the price? I do believe that with the last few launches TATA has earned itself the ability to price it fairly and not below the competition. Keeping this in mind, does the Harrier take on the XUV or the Compass? I feel its somewhere in the middle and that's where it should be priced.

I think Tata has to holistically look at the Harrier's & H7X' (which will launch next year) direct competition landscape which is mainly Creta, XUV 500 & XUV 700 (Alturas G2/4) while pricing both its vehicles. And pricing will also have to be a function of where Tata as a brand is now. They will also keep in mind that Creta/ XUV 500 are proven products that will help XUV 700 (Alturas G2/G4) whereas they don't have any such product in the market right now.

So just looking at above scenarios (am sure there will be many other factors too), I think Harrier could be priced below XUV 500 (on variant to variant basis) to account for the lack of 2 seats and lack of Harrier's non-existent reliability record, when compared with where XUV 500 stands currently.

For the H7x, Tata could start pricing around the top versions of XUV 500 W9/11 (to lure those customers) and move on to be just below the XUV 700 (Alturas G2/4) since Harrier's market report will be available by then (around Diwali 2019) and they should be able to make some corrections for H7x pricing later on, if needed.

A reliable source tells me that there will be no AT at launch and it will come later.

Is it just me or did someone else think of Harrier as modern version Breaking Bad's Walter White's first car?
