Unless Jeep brings out a cheaper version of compass, I doubt how compass will sell once H5X comes to the market. After all just 30 NM of torque on a base of 320 will not make a huge difference will it?

Jeep Compass numbers are already tapering down gradually. Hope Jeep takes corrective action soon.

Not really a Swift vs Punto story, because both Jeep and TATA have been the underdogs in the market for quite a long time. They've had Vista / Punto - Manza / Linea and the likes which completed each other. But then - the companies were partners back then.

By the time H5X comes out - Compass would be nearing its mid life refresh. They better have an answer to TATA, to ensure their own survival. Both these cars might be built in the same plant - so FCA might already know what to expect.

The winner will ofcourse be us, the consumers.

Well not exactly similar package. The compass has 30 bhp more power. That's 21% more powerful than H5X if the engine rumours are to be believed. While we expect H5X to be priced around Creta, what exactly they will price it at, we don't know yet.

So I believe unless H5X is substantially cheaper than Compass there will still be takers for the Jeep just on account of superior performance.

ACI has scooped some pics of the production-ready version of the H5X (Q501) SUV.

While the concept had 22-inch wheels, the production car will sport smaller 19-inch wheels. While the heavily covered test-mule wears dummy lights, the concept’s slim, high-set LED headlights are likely to be retained, along with Tata’s trademark ‘humanity line’ that connects the headlights, grille and the fog lamp enclosure.
On the inside, the cabin is wide with the large front seats sporting extended seat bolsters. The dashboard features a two-layer design that is also seen on the centre console – with the top-half featuring a touchscreen for the infotainment system. As seen in the spy shots, the SUV will come with a new steering wheel, a six-speed manual gearbox and memory function for the front seats. The front seats also get a dedicated overhead storage binnacle. The SUV could get dual-tone interior options at launch.
As is seen from the spy shots, the SUV will feature a five-seat layout with wide rear seats that will comfortably accommodate three, abreast. Tata will provide a centre armrest for the front, as well as rear passengers. Legroom for the second-row passengers looks good, too. However, the prototype does not feature a sunroof or rear AC vents – features Indian car buyers now expect to see even on smaller cars.
The prototype spied features standard pull-type door handles and a simpler, yet stylish five-spoke design for the alloy wheels.

Cabin does look very spacious but hope they don't exclude rear AC vents as in the Ecosport. Also the C-pillar windows look so big that you may think this is a 7-seater!

Tata should seriously consider naming H5X Sierra.

Maruti had done it with Balen, Hyundai with Xcent.

Sierra in itself is a catchy name, goes well with the profile and stance of the vehicle.

It doesn't appear to be as roomy at the back as XUV 500...considering the front seats appear to be in fully forward position.

ACI's article mentions this prototype does not have a sunroof, the portion marked in red is it the middle row light or a sunroof like mechanism? It would be a bummer to not included a sunroof in this vehicle, sure the top exec's know about this.

IIRC, some of the other pics are showing provision /cut-out for a panoramic sun-roof.

Yes and the interiors appears to be pretty average. Probably some problem with the photographs as such. Also from outside it looks much larger than what the space inside would suggest.

Agree with members above. The interiors look to be in the Xylo league. This may be the base model is my guess. Hope the interiors are made more premium. Also the feature list seems a little random. Memory seats while a lot of more preferred features in India are eliminated.
