Review posted in Car Dekho. Not sure how it will fare if priced closer to Endy & Toyota.

The Hyundai Tucson caters to this very segment and hasn't done too well in the market.

Now Honda India's website gives details of CR-V launch, and even has a 1.5 lakh offer on it. No need to go by rumours. Looks good and has powerful engines too. For those interested in this car.

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

New Honda CR-V India launch on October 9, 2018

Fifth-gen CR-V will come with a 1.6-litre diesel / 2.0-litre petrol engine option; seven seat layout will be offered for the first time.

Quote:
Honda has opted to bring the single-turbo rather than the twin-turbo version of the engine to India. It is understood that a twin-turbo arrangement would have bumped-up the CR-V’s price by up to Rs 1.5 lakh. In the single-turbo guise, the 1.6-litre diesel motor produces 120hp and 300Nm of torque.
The engine will come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission with paddleshifters as standard – and will also be offered with the option of all-wheel drive.

Quote:
The other engine-gearbox option on offer will be a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 2.0-litre engine puts out 154hp and 189Nm of torque

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

Thanks a lot for the awesomely detailed images/

Likes:

1. The MID/digital Speedo/Tacho.

Dislikes:

1. The under-powered engine - Spending 35 Lakh+ for a 120 HP engine is a travesty.

2. No Sunroof! What was Honda thinking!!?? Some initial posts in the threads indicating that the variant captured here seems to be a non-Indian release. Hope that is true. But even then, any variant of this car should come with a Sunroof!

3. Replacement of Gear-shift with buttons is, again, a bit too much. Will make it difficult for those who depend on drivers (they have a much flatter learning curve and will surely suffer), and for those driving in traffic requiring multiple switches.

4. Personal opinion - hated the taillight design

The considerably longer list of Dislikes is alarming. As is the nearly immaterial list of things I liked.

If the rear seating room is actually as limited as for people to perceive this as a premium 5-seater, then in my humble opinion, given the history of this segment and the kind of power/design elements/features Indians look for in premium SUVs, this product has a high chance of tanking completely! Even as a 7-seater, I don't really know what differentiated value the car is adding, especially with the under-powered diesel engine.

Also, I might be missing this, but is this a CBU or a CKU? Pricing seems to suggest that it will be manufactured locally. I might have missed this point on the forum.

On a different note

120 hp on a 2 tonne Scorpio was a star of an engine. Given the monocoque I expect the cr-v to be significantly lighter than the Scorpio and imho should be enough to effortlessly cruise at 3 digit speeds if not drag race from every red light . Only after the addition of the tiguan and the Kodiak, 120 may feel underpowered... But weren't the Japs always underpowered than the Europeans? Case in point: Corolla vs the octi/Jetta

Let's wait for the car to actually arrive at our shores to make a judgement. Please don't kill it before it's born

e:

Honda was known for sporty fun to drive high revving engines . Honda was never known for underpowered clutter of an engine unless they changed their segment for example dolphin shaped Honda city went down a segment .

Corolla diesel was never bought by individuals it was preferred by fleet owners as it was underpowered so individuals mostly stayed away from it . Can't compare .

I have the 2.4 engine . 190 hp feels just about adequate . I had driven 2.0 which felt underpowered .

1.6 with 120 HP is gonna be a bore .

It all depends on what you are looking for , if you want to sit behind and cruise while your driver drives you around then yes for you it won't make a difference but I like to drive and for me this is a stupid take Indians for granted move from Honda .

That's not true.
Cars here in general have better, feature rich interiors as standard. Civic has a NA engine only in the lowest 2 models, 1.5T Vtec otherwise. New Accord only offers the 1.5T & 2.0T (replacing the 3.5L V6). CRV now offers the old 2.4L NA only on the base model, replaced by 1.5T on all others. And Americans in general prefer to buy higher models more (since everything is on credit).

Problem is Americans don't prefer diesel, which is probably why they are failing in India.

Honda CR-V @ Auto Expo 2018

The Scorpio had a 2.2 ltr engine , not a 1.6. That in itself is a big difference so let's not compare it with the CRV.
The power figures of the CRV can be compared with the Marazzo. Similar displacement, power, torque and weight figures. And per the reviews the Marazzo doesn't like to pick up speed quickly and would require some planning to perform medium to high speeds overtake.

No point comparing a petrol engine to a diesel engine! The torque curve is all that matters. Diesel engines have been load pullers and 120bhp used to haul as much as 12 tonne trucks in Tata commercial vehicles. The biggest difference between a petrol and diesel is that the torque available right from 1500rpm-3000rpm is more than double that of a petrol engine (typical) which is the normal driving range for most people. Very few people actually drive at the 5000-6000rpm at which a petrol engine actually delivers its power.
Of course each person has their own preference, but there is no comparison between petrol and diesel engines in this situation. Lets wait for the TBHP review of the CRV before jumping the gun!

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

IMO , Honda is a little late to the diesel SUV party in the 25 to 35 lakh bracket. Competent products are now available in that price range. Not to mention the Innova now is a proper upmarket product with space, features and ease of ownership.
Having said that, the HONDA brand has immense pulling power. Even with this puny 120 bhp diesel, there are enough people in the big cities who want a soft roader that is comfortable, not to bulbous, easy to park, has the refinement( the Innova lacks refinement) and now easy to run. As a everyday work around car for the city , this frugal, refined 120 hp diesel CRV should make alot of sense.
