Let's stick to exshowroom prices :-). OTR taxes for Mumbai and Bangalore will induce cardiac arrest for anyone in NCR.

So no cost savings passed on to the customer!

Even though we get the cheaper 120bhp 1.6 diesel, the top end pricing is bang against the 3.2L 200ps Endeavours and 2.8L 177ps Fortuners!

Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan might face some heat though - as the Honda is known to be far more reliable - but those two were not doing much numbers in terms of sales anyways.

This is exactly what I was anticipating. Would anyone choose the CRV over Kodiaq? Japanese reliability may be the only reason to do so.

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

32.75 lakhs ex-showroom in BLR is ~39 lakhs. Don't see this being a numbers player UNLESS a potential buyer:

1. Is really hot on Honda as a brand, AND
2. Not too worked up about the 'deficient' 120 bhp engine, AND
3. Is exclusively looking for a monocoque soft-roader.

10 lakhs more than a Jeep++, 7 lakhs more than a Tucson AWD, 2 lakhs more than a Tiguan Highline and within touching distance of the large Kodiaq!

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

Basically Honda has gone and priced this in Fortuner territory. The Tiguain is starting to VFM suddenly, I doubt anyone would pick the 118 hp CRV over the Tiguain (7 seat advantage aside). The Tucson definitely holds the VFM tag in this segment, I feel.

At first glance this seems to be a case of exorbitant pricing.

with that pricing rest of the cars in this segment with more power feel so VFM and the Tucson feels very well priced if compared and with the discounts that are going around the Tucson seems like a good buy.

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

The pricing is either unjustified or justified from the way you look at it. For example, the old CRV petrol was 24.77 ex-showroom and new one is 28.15, which is a 14% hike, this seems justified for the larger size and other offerings.
But in India we love to compare everything to size hence when you compare the size of the CRV with the size and price of the Fortuner or Endeavour it seems unjustified.

However, my hunch is that the core CRV target audience is different from the Fortuner/Endeavour. It is a niche, luxury product hence most would not be making the comparison on just size. There 3 broad category of CRV TG:
1.Several consumers would be existing CRV users who would be happy to upgrade at this price
2.Sedan owners upgrading to an SUV without being intimidated by the size of a full blown ones
3.Existing full size diesel SUV owners who are fed up of their Fortuners/Endeavour

I fall into category 3, own a Fortuner since 2010 and even at this pricing I'm convinced that the petrol CRV is the best option for me. I don't need the bulky size of the Fortuner or it's bumpy ride. I am hoping for delivery by Dasera or month end

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

Honda, oh Honda. You never learn, do you.

Ideally, the CR-V should've been priced 2-3 lakhs lower. But Honda have priced it squarely within Kodiaq territory. I'm guessing this is a trailer to the Civic's pricing as well.

It's clear that they aren't looking at volumes, they have the budget Amaze for that. They want to maximise the profit on each unit sold, and re-build their premium image.

Sahil has neatly summed up the CR-Vs target audience, which is very different from that of the Fortuner / Endeavour. Existing Honda owners like me finally have an upgrade within the brand. Also, might I add, the golden brown colour looks smashing.

The car has been launched in only one fully-loaded trim. Honda can and should, introduce a lower priced variant that has the essentials but misses out on some of the frills.

I think the CR-V is gonna do 125-150 cars a month, similar to its rivals, the Kodiaq, Tiguan and Tucson. Let's wait and watch.

With all due respect, you are contradicting yourself here.

Anyways, the old CRV had 2.4 petrol engine for the top models, current one only gets the 2.0 which was available only till the mid-spec variant last time around. That one was 21.3L when launched.

Last time around the petrol top end was available with 4WD. Now its only on 2WD.

Its a 14% hike on paper against the previous top end which seems justified in terms of size, but comparing engine specs and drivetrain - the real increase in price is about 32%. Not only that - the petrol buyers don't even get the option of a true top end variant - with missing features compared to the diesel and its predecessor like 4WD, the 3rd row seats with its own ac controls, shift by wire etc.

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

Wow ! With Amaze, i thought Honda has fixed its pricing fiascos. But oh boy they are back and how !

~INR 4 Million for a 120 BHP car ! Agreed they've 9 Speed AT but still IMO this is atrocious pricing.

Who is going to make Honda rich ?
