Re: From March 2018, all Hyundai cars to come with a dustbin

A PR coup by Hyundai - whoever came up with this idea is a genius. And unlike the usual PR / CSR initiatives, this one is a win-win for everyone! Hyundai, car owners & regular citizens all gain from the in-car dustbin. Due to the carmaker's size, that's 45,000 - 50,000 new cars coming with dustbins each month .

It would be nice if all manufacturers make this standard in their cars. I usually use the door pockets to dump in all the used toll tickets & other misc items (clearing it up after the drive), but would love something like this in my cars.

Our test Kodiaq had a dustbin, but it isn't standard (part of the accessories list):

I would like to see the dustbin being placed under the front-passenger seat. It should be of tray type and to be more effective, it can be taken out either through front or through back enabling both the front and rear seat passengers to use it. Additional cup-holder based bin for driver can be a welcome feature.

eh? Is that a dustbin? Looks like a toddler's sippy cup. Giving these for free is more practical - once you dump your garbage into it, you can then seal the bag.

What car makers can do is offer access to the boot from the rear seat. So that sealed garbage bags can be dumped in the boot.

On a funny note, the newspaper comparisons will now say Swachh Bharath compatible: Hyundai i20-Yes, Suzuki Baleno-No.

Good PR initiative by Hyundai. But i would've loved a better design. This looks like a McD cold coffee cup but in Black.

Volkswagen has a dustbin in the list of accessories. Looks better. It can be stapped on to any of the front seats. And the waste bag disposal and replacement design is very well done.

I have a similar one which I got as a compliment in a public cleanliness initiative. But it doesn't have a plastic bag. I use it only for dry waste.

If I remember right, Toyota gave a cigarette ash holder(Which I never used btw since I dont smoke) when I purchased Etios GD back in 2012, which could technically be called a trash can. Hyundai does this now with SRK & gains some PR mileage.
