re: Tata EVision sedan concept - Now unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show

TATA need to take it to production if they were to have any chance of cracking high end market. They will not be able to compete in the high end market with regular ICE engines. EVs provide great opportunity for them to compete with the likes of Jetta, Civic, etc... They already have the technology from Jaguar.

The car looks stunning.

Sure; they have lifted the door handle idea off Tesla. The overall design is still very sharp and pleasing to the eye. Who would have thought we'd ever see a car like this from what was once known to be a truck company.

To compete in which market - Europe? I guess this will remain a concept for a long time till the infrastructure and market is matured for EV's in India.

Infrastructure will come over time. It't not going to be available over night. Both should be done in parallel. Tata is already working on low end EVs. Those also will need charging infrastructure. Already many states along with EESL are proactive and some states announced EV policies which includes charging infrastructure also.

This model is still a concept. Taking it to production will take at least 3-4 years even if they approve today.

re: Tata EVision sedan concept - Now unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show

I currently own a EV (Tesla Model S) in the US (California). In last one year, I would have used public charging infrastructure (super chargers) probably less than 10 times. 99% of times i charge at home (240v 40 amp). At home, Car charging starts at 11pm and completes before I am awake. I use superchargers only for long distance drives and there are very few days in a year where i need to drive more than 200 mile. And we always have second car (petrol) if venturing to some remote location.

My point is the need for Public infrastructure is exaggerated beyond use case. Ofcourse there is need for public charging when travelling long distances. But most of the time, electricity at our houses is sufficient.

I do agree with you. My neighbors have M&M E2O and they are happy with the range offered by the car. The challenge before him is to find a dedicated parking space, which is not possible in DDA flats as the protocol is open parking on first come basis.

Even in offices, charging infrastructure is absent and thus when he is low on charge @ home, he has to make use of his alternate petrol car.

He confirmed that if a dedicated parking is made available at his home for charging, he can make a 100% switch to EV for all his city needs. Outstation has to be necessarily through conventional fuel based vehicle.

Seeing the latest Tata designs they surely have come a long way. Imagining this on the roads already gives me the goosebumps. And that sunroof? Oh what a beauty. Wish the production spec version, whenever it is a reality looks like the concept.

What needs to be seen now is how the EV support infrastructure evolves in our country, especially the smaller cities and towns.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/m...ext-gen-models

Here we are ruing the fact that it's just a concept, and may have the curse of most Tata Geneva Sedan concepts in not seeing the light of day.

While Autocar UK has already announced the sedan as part of the trio that includes H5X and 45X.

Not to say, they have said the eVision is the sedan version of 45X, based on AMP platform, and will be available in options of petrol and diesel, with only a possibilty of electric versions !!!

Agreed it's an international media, but it had inputs from Autocar India, who should have known better.

(Though I secretly hope they are right. )

I really like the sharp and clean lines along with perfect proportions of a sedan. Good job Tata motors. The EVision might be a concept car but it does give us a glimpse of the design that future Tata cars will have.

Its raining EVs at the Geneva motor show, we might see a paradigm shift in mobility much before than anticipated. What a time to be alive !

A very timely post, dear Comrade! The forum really needed some owner feedback regarding this whole Tesla business. And highlighting that the importance of public infrastructure is exaggerated was most timely. In our country, long distance touring is still the preserve of a relatively small band of enthusiasts.

As for for TML's new EV sedan, it certainly brings a deep sigh of satisfaction - that the new TML is no flash in the pan. They have the needed depth & range in the portfolio of products in their pipeline. I hope they have kept in mind the two current benchmarks/deal-breakers where EVs are concerned - that they have to try to match Tesla (or at least aim for it!), where range - travel distance per battery charge - is concerned, and at the same time also maintain their VFM pricing.

Not forgetting to keep the time-window between concept & showroom as short as possible!
Way to go TML!

Re: Tata EVision sedan concept - Now unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show

Every popular model of every manufacturer may offer an EV.

Let the customer choose.

I am not aware of the costs of running an EV, but I do feel for shorter distances EV is a lot cheaper than a petrol or diesel one.

Major grouse with EVs as with Clutch less driving is the lack of involvement of driver, thereby implying that driving has become more universal.

Coming back to the EVs, I would first drive one and then comment.

An auto rickshaw driver, whose vehicle is an EV, said that the charging cost is 60 and the range is 80 km.

While it made sense, economically, I was a bit apprehensive about stated 500 kg payload. The wheels are wire rims!!!!

For us, a 1.7 lakh diesel Piaggio would carry 1.5 tonnes at about 25 kmpl of diesel.

Tata EVision sedan concept - Now unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show

This is a gorgeous concept from Tata Motors. The interior is almost Scandinavian in its simplicity and reminds me of Volvo.

I think Tata should really look to specialists like Magna Steyr for small volume manufacturing of the E Vision using mechanical bits from Jaguar (ipace and Epace).

Build it to such a high standard that the discerning buyer will overlook the badge.

Re: Tata EVision sedan concept - Now unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show

Reviving this old thread, today I spotted this article where official TATA Motors channel has busted the recently spread fake news on social media that TATA Evision will be launched in September 2019 and will have a 1000 km single charge range with 10 year battery warranty. TATA has said this is a completely fake rumour and it will have around 400 km which matches that of Hyundai Kona apart from being having similar price point. So it seems in EV technology all companies are having similar advancement and no one has anything ground breaking that will beat competition and is revolutionary.
