Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

In another thread, a VW Golf GTD was pictured with similar pollution test equipment. My guess is manufacturers are preparing for RDE tests proposed to be introduced in the EU.

Hyundai is not testing that car, the yellow sticker says its under test by ARAI.

Does that mean homologation is not far? The launch could happen much earlier if it's already handed over to ARAI.

Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

Would definitely hate to see this with the 1.2 NA petrol engine. Hyundai needs to put the 1.4 petrol motor in this

There is a engine gradation in diesel as we go from i10 to i20 but the same petrol engine powers both. i30 definitely needs the 1.4 NA petrol

There is no way Hyundai will have 1.2 engines for i30. This car is aimed at premium category, may be C2 or even more. So expect 1.6 diesel or new 1.5 diesel and turbocharged petrol engines.

Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

The new 1.5 petrol engine will be perfect. The turbocharger petrol in India will not move. Suzuki has already shelved using the 1.0 Boosterjet in any car other than the Baleno

Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

Glad to see the 1.6 D badge, but after having a look online, the engine seems to have been detuned to 110Hp for the international market! Hope Hyundai doesn't do that for our market.

Next question would be if diesel automatic variant will be considered! Unlike most people I prefer Hatch over SUVs most of the time, such cars will make the pain of upgrade easier.

Even if the i30 is launched in India, I do not think there is a business case for the usual petrol, diesel with both manual and auto gearboxes. It would be too many variants and investments for a segment that is still niche. Rather Hyundai should just get a petrol auto and probably a diesel manual, maximum 2 variants in each and see how it performs. There are a lot of folks in metros like Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi who spend 11-12 Lakhs on a Polo GT TSi and this is the customer base that Hyundai needs to target.

Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

So, let us say Hyundai wants to perform Indian real-world condition tests on a new engine for the Elantra. It could put the new engine along with all manner of testing instrumentation/equipment in an existing Elantra and drive around in it. Easy, right? Or so we think. I think there could be some unintended consequences here.
Some (in fact, many) eagle-eyed car enthusiast shutterbugs will see this Elantra with testing equipment, take pictures, post it, and start speculating. Which will slowly, by word of mouth, filter through to a very large number of people thinking of buying a D-segment sedan. Which is going to be a headache for marketing folks and dealers to handle the various weird queries that will result from this speculation (ever played the game Chinese Whispers? )
So instead, Hyundai will import an i30 that it has absolutely no intention of launching in India, as a test bed for the new engine. Let the world speculate and discuss and get all worked up about the i30. It won't affect the Elantra.

Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

Please pardon me but I wanted to ask one stupid question. What exactly does ARAI test? Is it just the FE? Or other aspects of the vehicle too like safety etc.
Second with all this real world testing, how do they manage to attain such drastically different FE figures which the companies use for marketing?

Re: Hyundai i30 spied in India!

Caught some more pics of the same ghadi that's roaming around south chennai.
Some of my views:
1. i30 should rectify the rear space problem of i20.
2. Hankook 205/55 tyres are massive.. love it ! But that alloys, Hyundai is very well capable of designing a better looking alloys.
3. Tail light resembles creta is some angle, I feel i20s tail lights are better
4. It's a wide car!! High way manners should be good that too with 1.6D monster
5. It's not a head turner, in the middle of peak hour traffic no one bothered to look at it, except the constant stare from me

Thanks for sharing. I am surprised i30 comes with 205/55 tyres. The Hyundai Verna SX(O) comes with 195/55!

Not surprising since that's the same tyre size as the Elantra - 205/55-16.

Verna is a segment down on the i30 hatch, if and when it gets introduced in the market.

i30 will be priced above Verna? I thought it would be priced similar to Verna, like Ciaz and S-cross.
