M Steerings have always been my favourite. However, the regular BMW steerings can be quite boring like the F10 and E60

The BMW M wheel is nice and material quality is top notch. But the rim is too thick and if you don't have large palms it can cause some uneasiness.

That's an alcantara wheel from one of the R cars. Not stock in India.

My favourite is the wheel on my GTI. The size (dia) is a tad smaller than regular VW steering wheels and the rim is the perfect size, it is oval shaped and not round and perfect to grip with your hands. Even the texture of the fine grained leather is a treat to touch and feel. The design, the red stitching, the satin finish metal piece with the GTI logo, simply brilliant!

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

Why is no one talking about the flat bottom steering wheel? After experiencing new MS Dzire's flat-bottom steering wheel, the first question came to my mind was that, can I replace my MS Brezza's steering wheel with this flat bottom wheel? Unfortunately, ASS guy told me that it's not possible because of the airbag assembly & many other factors.

IMO, Skoda Octavia vRS's flat-bottom steering wheel is amazing. Apart from touch and feel of this steering wheel, small VRS logo on the bottom of steering wheel gives an amazing adrenaline rush.

Our official review of Skoda Octavia RS agrees with me.

Sexy flat-bottom steering wheel replaces the round one from the regular Octavia (reference image). It gets a leather wrap which is perforated and has thumb contours. The steering is just amazing to hold:

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

The old Baleno sedan Vxi (Leather wrapped) steering is really nice. I recently bought one from the scrapyard and I'm trying to fit it in my Alto.

Another interesting one is the Mahindra Jeeto wheel.

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

The steering wheel of my Hyundai Eon sportz is my favorite. Same was seen in old i20 sports /asta and previous vernas but with audio controls and Bluetooth telephony control. It looks too good for an A segment car. It is great to hold and feels rich.

Will vote for Maruti.

1. Featherlight operation.
2. Practical and no frills. Japanese minimalist design.
3. Less vibration and feedback is just right to make the driver aware of terrain.

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

1. Polo's flat bottom steering wheel takes the crown

2. Creta's wheel (leather, thumb contours, high quality, soft touch & large buttons).

3. 2018 Maruti Swift's flat bottom steering wheel.

One of the biggest reasons is the cost of airbag development which is saved if you use a modular steering wheel. Often to meet the safety standards, the columns are also the same especially in the collapsible part section.

How about the old-school steering like this one!

Simple, Raw and Built for its purpose.

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

I think we will not get an objective feedback for which is the best steering from this survey. The reason is very simple.
As a individual, I may have driven only 2-3 cars of the lot in each segment. So, what ever Opinion I write will be based on purely my 2-3 car experiences.

Example: For a Toyota Fortuner Owner, if he has test driven Endeavor(Example) he can compare only Fortuner and Endeavor. So, when he mentions Fortuner is the best OR endeavor is the best, we cannot conclude from his experience.

From my experiences of Qualis, Santro, Esteem, 118 NE, I believe the best steering is Qualis. The position is such that your arm never pains even if you drive 1000 kms in a day. No electronics and jing-jang. Plain simple steering.
But, this does not mean that Tavera, Innova, Scorpio, Xylo, Safari (Comparing the same class of vehicles) are inferior to Qualis !!

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

I have not much of experience as I have only driven following cars: Ford Escort, Tata Indica, Hyundai Verna (First Gen), Fiat Punto and Ford Ecosport.

In terms of steering pleasure, I have always liked the Ford Escort followed by Fiat Punto. Rest of them are all okay. My exposure to electric power steering is only with Ecosport and somehow I have not liked it the way I like Hydraulic steering; though Verna's steering is kind of over servo'ed / over engineered but there is certainly no "dead feeling" at any given point and even a millimeter of change in steering changes the movement of car, which is not exactly there in EPS.

In terms of controls on steering, Punto programmed for "Blue & Me" is good and offers almost everything right at the wheel itself.

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

In terms of feedback, the best steering among all the cars that I have driven has to be the first gen Zen.
In terms of features and ergonomics I daresay VAG group blows the competition out in almost every offering of theirs (except the Polo).

Re: The best stock steering wheel among Indian cars

My favorite steering looks wise has been the M steering, though I also love Polo GTI.
Feedback wise, for me nothing has come close the the Ford Ikon 1.6 Sxi's. It was small chunky and amazingly accurate with brilliant feedback. Back in the day we had the Ikon Flair (1.3) but got the 1.6's steering upgraded (which had a smaller diameter) at the showroom itself and it such a joy to drive.

I value the ease of honking without taking my hand off the steering wheel or uncomfortably stretching the thumb. I have such a high affinity for that aspect that I am trying to find a Nox style steering mounted button for my aux horn[hella single trumpet] awaiting installation.

The steering pictured above appears to be among the most comfortable ones in this aspect.
