The upcoming hatchback won’t be a simple cross badging as Toyota will make significant design changes to the current Baleno as they want both models to look different.

I have a question though. The next gen Corolla has been unveiled in China now and I think it would hit most markets by mid next year, possibly even in India. So is Toyota going to supply the next gen Corolla to Suzuki or are both of the companies going to keep the cost down by letting Suzuki use the existing car and Toyota uses the new one? This way both the cars would be a little different when you look at the basic silhouette of the car. Else they would start looking as similar from the sides as a Vento and a Rapid.

It would be the New Corolla based on the TNGA platform that would be shared.

Maruti Suzuki is rumoured to have started testing the Corolla based sedan. Launch is expected in late 2019.

Will be priced very aggressively.

Maruti Suzuki’s version of the Corolla will go on sale during the 2019 festive season and the internal prototype testing has commenced. Suzuki is currently testing the premium sedan at Rohtak R&D centre in Haryana.

So would there be a cap on how much Suzuki can undercut the Corolla? My guess is Toyota would not want Suzuki to undercut the Corolla massively. Current prices range around 20-25 lakhs on road, so Suzuki should be allowed to price their version about 10-15% lower, meaning 18-23 lakhs on road. But what would be interesting is the way the cars will differ on features. The current Corolla is pretty basic and the entry level variants are actually too barebones. But Suzuki off late has loaded most of their Nexa cars with decent kit. So if Suzuki undercuts the Corolla and also offers better equipment, and if the car is a Corolla all underneath, then why would or why should anyone buy a Corolla, especially the fleet owners and hotels etc who seem to fancy the Toyota nameplate.

It will vary in terms of power-trains and hence the pricing though both will be hybrids.
The Suzuki 'Corolla' is likely to have their engines while the Toyota Corolla will retain its 1.8l power-train as unveiled globally .

Full blown Hybrids from Toyota to come in Suzuki's cars. Likely to be showcased at the 2020 Auto expo.

Suzuki's next SUV( 7 Seat - Grand Vitara?), S Cross and Corolla-based premium sedan ( Kizashi ?) will be the recipients of this technology.

Other than the hybrid powertrain, the company’s Corolla-based sedan should also be available with the 1.8-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 173 Nm. A diesel engine might be entirely skipped owing to the fast dropping demand for diesel-powered vehicles.

I hope suzuki brings back the Kizashi form in what they adapt from Corolla. It was good and striking design that failed due to price/engine/transmission.
Although I am happy with the collaboration, it could also mean Suzuki cars will not be good performance wise and feature wise where they re-use each others cars.

Suzuki, Toyota deepen alliance in all areas except equity.

They will be working like twins

-The alliance to include areas such as manufacturing and sales practices, common service centres
- Royalty payments on models supplied to each other
-Toyota and Suzuki will pay for the design changes that they seek from each other while sourcing the respective models in order to make the models look distinct from each other.

Good collaboration and good competition. That is the concept

More differentiation will happen in terms of design—Suzuki-like product and Toyota-like product. If a car is made for both Toyota and Suzuki, whoever builds the car will have the right to introduce the model first in the market. As a manufacturer, it is very difficult to launch two things at the same time

The vehicles will be sold by respective subsidiaries of Toyota and Suzuki based in India through their sales networks

Suzuki supplied Toyota's Baleno is likely to be the first of the cars to be launched from the Toyota- Suzuki alliance. Arriving late 2019.

Will come BSVI ready and in 2 petrol variants with diesel most likely being phased out in the Baleno segment.

Toyota plans to launch its version of Suzuki's Baleno in India next fiscal.

the two firms are looking at cooperation in exports of models developed by Suzuki, including those produced by TKM, from India to Africa and other markets through their global sales networks

Last week, Toyata and Suzuki agreed to expand the scope of their collaboration and discuss new joint projects in the fields of technological development, vehicle production, and market development.

Toyota to launch the 'Baleno' version of Suzuki's hatch in 2019.

One thing we're working on now is one of the products from the alliance - the Baleno. Towards the second half of this year, we should be seeing it made available to our dealers for sale.

This model-sharing exercise will go beyond mere badge-engineering, and Toyota’s version of the Baleno is likely to sport soft part changes – such as a new grille, redesigned bumpers and lights

the company aims to add value by providing a different buying experience to the customer.

From Toyota's side, our focus is to differentiate the sales experience for the customers that we get. We would look at Toyota strengths of sales. We have more than 1.5 million Toyota customers, we have to focus on how we approach them and offer them this product so that they remain in the Toyota family

In time, it is also expected to adopt some form of hybridization in line with Suzuki and Toyota’s partnership in this area.

On hybrid solutions

We don't try to keep hybrid solutions within Toyota. So, we say, please use the system; our partners (Suzuki) can use our technology. We will try to translate it into the B-segment hybrids soon.

Suzuki deal — an electric vehicle?

We are planning a smaller vehicle — an EV — with Suzuki. You don't need infrastructure for hybrids. Self-charging EVs are the best solution for India.
