Rumour: BMW X4 coming to India in 2019. Edit: Launched @ 60.60 lakhs

BMW unveiled the second generation X4 at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Now, according to a media report, the carmaker is planning to launch the SUV in India in 2019.

The new BMW X4 is based on BMW's CLAR platform, which also underpins the recently launched BMW X3. Compared to its predecessor, the new X4 is longer, wider and lower and thanks to the new platform, it is 50 kg lighter as well.

In terms of styling, the X4 is essentially a coupe version of the X3. It has a similar front fascia with a large twin-kidney grille flanked by BMW's twin-pod LED headlights. The front bumper has a large air dam and is flanked by vents on either side, which house a pair of LED fog lights. The coupe-like roofline is more evident in side profile. The rear end however is unique to the X4. It features slim L-shaped LED tail lights with the BMW logo in the centre, dual-tone rear bumper and twin-exhaust tips.

That said, the interiors are similar to the X3. It comes with a redesigned dashboard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a touchpad and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include 3-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, electric seats and ambient lighting among others.

In India, BMW might offer the X4 with the same engine as the new X3, which is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel which produces 188 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. The X4 is likely to get all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

BMW is badly stuck with their monotonous designs. No matter what they do now, all their cars look the same. There's something to learn here from their rival Mercedes Benz.

God alone knows how long they're going to carry on like this.

Meh! Is this really a so called SUV/soft-roader? Looks like a notch back car to me. Come on BMW you can do way better with your designs across the range. Take a look at Mercedes Benz's creativity! They are knocking it out of the park.

invent some new numbers to stick in between 1-9 and they'd have a "new" vehicle ready to force down our throat.
Why BMW? How do you sell this to us, what is the USP in comparison to the other nearby X series' on offer?
I'm still recovering from the fact that the X2 is smaller than the X1 but is marketed as a bigger 1-series.

re: Rumour: BMW X4 coming to India in 2019. Edit: Launched @ 60.60 lakhs

My understanding has been that:

X5 inspired ML/GLE and GL/GLS
X6 inspired GLE AMG Coupe
X3&X4 inspired GLK/GLC/ GLC AMG Coupe
X1 Inspired GLA

X5 in fact inspired all Merc, Audi etc Softroader/ Crossovers / SUVs

My beliefs based on historical facts could be wrong. Seriously do correct me. I have felt that the BMW X series has spun the entire range of luxury SUVs. Keeping JLR aside for now.

X4 shape does look good to me how it is priced vs the GLC is a question to be answered. But I love the X6.

What the X5 did was bring the monocoque unibody chassis to soft roaders. The M class was designed and devised much earlier, to replace the G class(which ironically never happened) but was initially based on a ladder frame chassis.
The GL was actually released for the North American market, to compete with cars like the Escalade.

Yes, the coupe idea was BMWs, but BMW X line inspiring all soft roaders is taking it a little too far. Also, you just cannot ignore JLR if you are speaking of Luxury SUVs.

Infact, most of the SUV market has come up thanks to North America, initially driven by multiple American companies building under the Jeep Marquee.

The first car-like crossover, as we know them today, was the Toyota RAV4. There were a couple of unibody SUVs before (e.g. Cherokee), but credit for a crossover that really drove & behaved like a regular hatchback / sedan goes to the RAV4. Everyone else just jumped on it. Anyone who saw their popularity in the lower segments would know that it'll eventually be the same in the luxury segment too. Toyota had copied a lot from Mercedes in launching 'Lexus', so just as well that the Germans picked up on crossovers from Toyota.

Rumour: BMW X4 to be assembled in India

Reports suggest that the BMW X4, which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2019, will be imported as a completely knocked down unit (CKD) and assembled at BMW's Chennai facility.

The BMW X4 is based on the CLAR platform, which also underpins the X3. It is shaped like a coupe and features a twin-kidney grille up front with twin-pod LED headlights, while the front bumper houses a set of LED fog lamps. The rear gets slim L-shaped LED tail lights and a dual-tone bumper.

The interiors are similar to the new X3. It comes with a redesigned dashboard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The X4 has a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. It gets features like 3-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and a panoramic sunroof.

In India, the X4 is expected to be offered with 2 engine options including a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit, which puts out 249 BHP @ 5,200 rpm and 350 Nm @ 1,450-4,800 rpm. The diesel option might include a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine that produces 261 BHP and 620 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are expected to be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive will be standard.
