The latest merc C Class ads seem to imply all are automatics. Am sure Rudy will be along with the complete picture once he gets over his hangover

Given their sporty image & reputation I'm pretty sure there will be a manual option for BMW's. They certainly won't have an auto-only policy for the 3 & 5 series.

The C Class is the only Mercedes available with a 6 speed manual. And it is built on order since more than 90% of C's sold are automatics.

You can say that again! How can the Ultimate driving machine be offered only in an automatic? That makes it one reason for me never to consider the Indian 3 series.

The only car that I would buy with a slush box is the S Class. It somehow suits the personality of the car.

I wonder what the figure would be if they manufactured it from completely over here.. My guess would be somewhere in the 17-18L range for the 3 series...that would be AMAZING !!!

I just read in Autocar that porsche has already sold 200 cars in India...no wonder BMW is so optimistic about the market here..

I also confirm that for the first 2-3 months before BMW starts assembling cars here they will be absorbing import duty costs and will be pricing them at CKD prices.. So i am sure they will be atleast 10% cheaper than the TRISTAR.. I will be talking to the Head of BMW Sales India in a few days so I can confirm about the pricing..
Cheers

no...the 26 lakh pricing is for the cars being manufactured in India.

Till the factory and assembly operations are started in India, BMW will be importing the cars and they will sell them at a loss.

i doubt it will be at a loss. just probably at no profit. This is usually the case. Even the price is with profit once they start manufacture the car locally they will not reduce the price and pass it to the customer.

his way they can even gauge customer feedback and sort out the issues on the india manufactured ones before that starts rolling out.

They need to move fast even at a loss. Audi have made big in roads. After the initial surge in BMW sales things seem to have flattend out. Not many new fives since the initial launch, I keep seeing new Mercs and Audi's on the road.

With the New C Class coming in end 2007, BMW need to move fast and get some action

BMW's "strategy" resembles a lot Peugeot's. They came in with an attitude and left without anything. I hope BMW makes the right moves for a long-term establishment in Bharat
