Which model will make more sense for 6 passengers. The 7 seater, with only 2 in the last row or the 9 seater with the 4th row folded and carrying the luggage. If all six passengers are pretty comfortable in the 9 seater, then I think that makes more sense as it should be able to carry more luggage with the 6 passengers than the 7 seater.

The length of the vehicle is same in both 7 & 9 seater configurations. If you want only a 6 seater, go for 7 seater versions as the seats are wll spaced and you get very good boot space for luggage.

9 seater option will still have seats which will not be used (in your case) and why fiddle around by folding down etc? Plus added weight, probably extra cost of the vehicle (if any) etc

I am actually not in the market for a vehicle. Just asking so as to ascertain how usable or more importantly, how comfortable the 6 captain seats are in the 9 seater config. For someone who might need more boot space, especially considering the luggage for 6 adult passengers, the 9 seater might make more sense but only if the space is not cramped. If the six captain seats provide enough space for comfortable travel, I personally would prefer that as that would allow me to carry all the luggage inside the car.

re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

I made a small video of Kia Carnival during my visit to Kia showroom to take delivery of my car.

Must say, Carnival will be a game-changer vehicle in the MPV segment. A perfect upgrade to Toyota Innova!

Re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

So its somewhat placed out of the price range of the Crysta. Yet the base variant might sound like a good alternative to the Crysta top end variant since it does offer a lot more as a product. Only downside will be the size especially if one uses it for personal use and is self driven. This pricing will keep a tab on the regular price hikes by Toyota on the Crysta since if they increase further, it will fall bang into the Carnivals field and people will prefer the latter.

Re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

Kia Carnival variant-wise prices (ex-showroom, India)

Premium (7-seater): Rs 24.95 lakh
Premium (8-seater): Rs 25.15 lakh
Prestige (7-seater): Rs 28.95 lakh
Prestige (9-seater): Rs 29.95 lakh
Limousine (7-seater): Rs 33.95 lakh

Standard safety equipment on the Carnival includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Isofix child-seat mounts, rear parking sensors and a rear camera. In terms of creature comforts, the base-spec Premium covers the basics well, with projector headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, power-sliding doors, three-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, cruise control, keyless entry/go, tilt and telescopic steering and power-adjustable wing mirrors.

The mid-range Prestige variant adds electronic stability control, hill-start assist, side and curtain airbags, front parking sensors, LED projector headlamps, ice-cube LED fog lamps, a powered tailgate, a dual-pane sunroof and power-folding wing mirrors. The 9-seater version gets exclusive leatherette upholstery as well.

Befitting its name, the top-spec Limousine trim gets second-row captain seats with extendable leg support, Nappa leather seat upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob. Other highlights include UVO connected car features, 10.1-inch dual rear-seat entertainment screens, an air purifier and a powered and ventilated driver's seat.

As already mentioned, the Carnival can be had in three seating configurations – as a 7-seater with a 2+2+3 arrangement, as an 8-seater utilising a 2+3+3 design or a 9-seater employing a 2+2+2+3 layout with a fourth row of seats.

Powering the Kia is a BS6-compliant, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 200hp and 440Nm of torque through the front wheels. With transmission duties handled by a sole 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, ARAI-rated fuel efficiency is pegged at 13.9kpl.

Bookings have officially been underway since January 21, and since then, the Carnival has bagged 3,500 orders, of which 70 percent are for the top-spec Carnival Limousine. Should the MPV sustain the initial momentum, Kia’s second model for India could be its second hit in a row.

If KIA can promise a rock solid reliability in the Indian market, I think it can become a potential Innova killer especially targeted towards people who were erstwhile considering the top trim of the Innova. Looks smashing ! It will be refreshing to see this mammoth MPV sharing our roads with the decades old Innova !

Re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

People have built up some wrong expectations on the pricing. These are more realistic prices. Innova will be safe for the time being. Guys who actually need a 7 seater will now order this, others who normally travel single or as a couple/ kids with driver will surely give this a miss. I won’t be surprised to see some cancellations or low sales given the high prices.

35 Lac Ex-Showroom (40-42 lac on road) is a big number for most homes to spend on a family car.

Re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

With this kind of pricing, they have made the already overpriced Innova Crysta look like a VFM offering. While the Carnival is not directly an Innova rival, people are not going to understand that and leave out the comparo. The top end diesel AT Innova is ~23 lakhs ex-showroom while the base diesel AT Carnival is ~25 lakhs ex-showroom. The Carnival got a little too premuim to capture the MPV market IMO.

No doubt the Carnival offers more than it's worth but looks like the Innova is there to rule this segment for years to come.

How about the thousands of Innova and Crysta owners already in the market - who never had a better option to upgrade to? Or the many luxury garages who were using Innova as the family beater due to lack of options?

Now many of them have an option! Carnival has filled a big void in the market.

Remains to be seen how many can endure driving such a huge vehicle in our traffic though!

Pricing is what eventually the market says : if it has been accepted well, in addition to others, pricing was definitely spot on. So we need to wait till the euphoria of new launches fizzle out.

What I am thinking of, is, the GC. With all 9 on board and 3060 wheel base, what is the REAL road worthy GC? If it is not practicable, it becomes hotel to airport transfer vehicle at best. Overpriced at that too.

Re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

Carnival with those dimensions, seating configurations, and features actually goes against Toyota's Vellfire but not the Innova Crysta. Though it is less luxurious than Vellfire, it can have some takers too from the Vellfire's segment. In my books, it is not overpriced.

Re: Kia Grand Carnival MPV coming in 2020. Edit: Launched @ 24.95 lakhs

While everyone keeps mentioning the "size" of the vehicle and talking about constraints for parking and mall ramps etc, however a quick comparison, the Carnival is very close to the Mercedes E-Class in length. Are any current owners of E-Class facing any such issues?
