The base model slips under the magic 4 lakh mark. Very juicy price

Apart from the smart pricing strategy by making use of the excise duty cut for 1.2 ltr petrol engines, some other interesting facts:

1>. Gm doing a first in india for cars in this segment with a 3 year/1,00,000 km warranty.
2>. Gm says spare parts for the U-VA costs 24% lower than its competitors[Infact gm is trying very hard to reduce spare part costs for all its cars in India]
3>. The 1.2 ltr engine should be relatively fuel efficient with respect to its competitors

Gm obviously is giving a lot of thought for the developing markets[china ,india etc].

Yep the test drive cars are already out and are doing promotions on the streets of Mumbai. A friend of mine hanging out with pals at Bandra had a GM sales guy with the Uva come up to him and offered him a TD. He was allowed to take the car to its limits too. Came away quite impressed with the car

Drove the U-VA for considerable distance. Here are a few observations.

Ride & Handling

Definately good for a small car, so is the ride. Good road holding due to broader tyres.

Engine & Gearbox

Needs to be revved hard to extract performance. Its a bit coarse towards the top end of the revband. If you drive fast, you'l have to work the gearbox. Can do with a bit more power. Gearshift quality is average.

Interiors

Good quality, indicator stalks are american style. But could have been better with more colours. At present mostly grey.

Build Quality

Better than most but may not be as good as the palio.

Summary

Liked it better than the Zen Estilo, its a bigger car, more in the league of the palio, indica. But for a car of this size, the engine can do with more juice. Good city car and better than the estilo on the highway.

Drifter

The UV-A sounds a much better competition for the Swift, than the Getz...

IMHO... Getz better go CRDi fast, or it will take a very heavy blow... (CRDi is coming, but not in another year... Thats what i've heard)

The price is definitely mind boggling... The base version is 3.97lakhs (or was it 3.87L?) and the top one is 4.75Lakhs! And the best part is that the car looks every bit american from the front... Long, sweeping headlights that make it look like those huge hatches... basically those sedans with their tail cut down. Very unlike the traditional hatches which are designed to be hatch and then some of them have an afterthought and decide to don the sedan avatar as well.

Seems to be like that the smaller Aveo will surely be a flop show before the Swift. The premium hatchback customer will never ever trust Ford/GM in India.

Is there anything more that it can offer when compared to Swift ???

U-VA  What ever that means, they should have put some other good name. Anyway, it is a good looking car and pretty capable for city driving acoording to ACI. Mileage should be better than most of the competition.
